As a Sr. Program Manager, Public Health you will Provide
expertise and support to maintain AMA’s leadership as a credible source of
information on, and advocacy for, relevant medical, scientific, and public
health policies with a focus on the implementation and ongoing evaluation of
the AMA’s public health strategy. Strengthen the AMA’s mission critical work in
public health and establish external liaison to advance related issues. Manage a portfolio of
content and projects focused on evidence-based public health interventions and report on core public health programmatic
activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Development
and Management
• Lead AMA activities related to the implementation and reporting of progress on the AMA's public health strategy, including implementation of evidence-based clinical preventive services, collaboration between medicine and public health, and the AMA’s response to public health threats.
• Manage a portfolio of complex content and projects focused on evidence-based public health interventions; deliver project tasks on time, in budget, and in scope, with high quality and ensure that deliverables/milestones are met.
• Provide day-to-day leadership for public health programs and ensure racial justice and equity are embedded.
• Provide subject matter expertise and counsel to AMA divisions or programs, regarding public health.
• Collaborate with leadership and support the AMA’s Council on Science and Public Health, Board of Trustees, House of Delegates, and Senior Management by researching, writing, editing, and overseeing the development of scientific and policy reports, reviews, and position statements, and providing staff support for Reference Committees at AMA House of Delegates meetings.
• Under the direction of the Vice President, Science, Medicine, and Public Health support the planning process for the public health strategy.
Manage Relationships
with Key Collaborators and Relevant stakeholders
• Identify, foster, and maintain effective relations with relevant internal and external organizations, including government agencies, private organizations, collaborative partnerships, and Federation members to advance the AMA’s public health priorities.
• Manage collaborations across internal business units that are engaged in public health to coordinate and share progress.
• Present and represent AMA at various national meetings or coalitions as a public health subject matter expert, as requested.

Management
• Lead, mentor and provide management oversight for professional staff.
• Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating performance, and developing staff.
• Identify opportunities for advancing staff skills and expertise.

REQUIREMENTS:
• PhD, DrPH, or MPH is required. Experience working in governmental public health preferred.
• Minimum of 7+ years’ work experience in the public health field; demonstrated knowledge, training, and expertise in program management and evaluation, strategy development, and the interface between health care and public health.
• Experience with people management required: able to develop and mentor talent
• Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, multi-task across many assignments, and delegate tasks as needed. Ability to lead/direct significant activities.
• A track record of publication and experience in developing public policy is required.
• Proven experience conducting literature searches and evidence-based reviews, with soliciting expert opinion through various methods, and writing/editing sound scientific reports on a wide variety of topics and issues related to both clinical and basic science aspects of drug therapy is required.
• Excellent analytical and writing skills are needed.
• Polished speaking, presentation, and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain internal and external relationships are necessary.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multi-faceted projects with both time pressure and with high quality standards is required.

Program Strategy and Development
• Design and implement a strategy to ensure equitable opportunities and conditions in innovation for marginalized and minoritized people and communities; identify opportunities to mitigate bias within healthcare innovation (the people given opportunities to innovate, the products developed and who has access to them, the harm this creates and the inequities that are exacerbated)
• Launch a model for assessing and continuously monitoring the needs of marginalized and minoritized innovators, entrepreneurs, and patients/consumers
• Develop an equity-centric Patient Innovation Network, in with collaboration with PS2
• Identify and execute a roadmap of programmatic efforts in response to stakeholder needs and market gaps to advance equity in healthcare innovation; conduct market scans, identify and engage leads, define opportunities for collaboration with outside organizations to develop, test, and launch concepts for new programs and resources
• Partner with CHE colleagues, collaborating Business Units, OGC, and Finance to move opportunities from scoping through contracting to launch
• Represent CHE on the AMA Innovation Steering Committee, identifying and driving forward opportunities to embed equity into key AMA innovation initiatives including our AI Strategy, Digital Health Guidelines & Initiatives, Telemedicine Workgroup, and Precision Medicine Strategy
• Build the external communication and market influence plan, identifying channels and mechanisms for advancing equity and innovation objectives within key stakeholder groups, including the broader healthcare start-up, investment, and technology community
External Collaboration
• Serve as a strategic lead for external equity and innovation partnerships, ensuring that collaborations meet agreed objectives, are continuously evaluated for improvement, and/or renewed, or expanded as appropriate

REQUIREMENTS:
• MD required

Utilizing “Core” database efficiencies, accountable for coding analysis and research for the use and application of CPT codes. Develop CPT educational content through books, electronic products, newsletters, and symposiums. As the CPT, subject matter expert, provide recommendations and developments to CPT based on health policy knowledge.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serve as counsel and support to the CPT Editorial Panel to develop and maintain the CPT code set, including preparation of highly complex code change proposals, active facilitation of Panel Workgroups and industry focused caucuses involving multiple stakeholders. Assist in preparing legislative and regulatory presentations and testimony on physician coding issues and development of Panel minutes that forms the basis for all CPT products. Maintain CPT roadmap and develops content release information. Serve as the primary liaison and subject matter expert to the national medical specialty societies, public and private payers, AMA members, healthcare financing stakeholders, and internal AMA groups on highly complex and high profile issues related to the CPT code set. Investigate, analyze and communicate complex health care policies associated with the delivery and reporting of health care services and procedures that impacts the use of the CPT code set by physicians and non-physician health care professionals.
• Author and develop educational content to support the policies of the CPT Editorial Panel and/or the CPT Editorial Assistant Board, in the form of books, newsletters, electronic products and advice, to assist AMA members, physicians, non-physician health care professionals and other CPT stakeholders in appropriately applying the CPT code set. Critically review and analyze the CPT code set, as responsible for the maintenance of the CPT code set.
• Proactively identify gaps in the CPT code set, show implications of changes and supplies recommendations to the CPT code set.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
• * Minimum of 7 years CPT experience or equivalent medical society experience; exposure to CPT required.
