The Fire and Risk Coordinator provides ownership to a single manufacturing mill site in areas of fire risk and prevention, fire protection, fire investigation and root cause corrective action, emergency response, and fire equipment inspection and maintenance.
The Carolina Particleboard mill is a 24/7 manufacturing operation. This is a M-F Day shift role; however, the Coordinator must have ability to support occasional off-shift employee and business needs.
Position responsibilities include:
• Champions fire prevention mentality across the mill and implants “where could the next fire be” as a mindset
• Monitors the preventive maintenance schedule for fire/spark detection & suppression equipment to ensure all equipment is operational and in ready state and in compliance with corporate standard, insurance and OEM guidelines
• Develops inspection procedures and schedules to ensure quality inspections and audits are completed, oversees onsite contractors while performing inspections, maintenance, and testing of equipment, and manages all site fire system maintenance records including compliance with system impairment, and red tag activities per insurance and OSHA
• Partners with corporate team to manage and conduct fire prevention and insurance audits, managing any findings to completion
• Leads diverse investigation team for all fires toward root cause and owns and manages the site safety management database for fire reporting and investigations
• Along with the Safety Manager, schedules fire drills and emergency evacuation drills; is a liaison with the local fire department, reviewing and sharing mill fire response protocols; and conducts annual tours for familiarization of the site and associated fire risks
• Manages contractor costs, soliciting quotes and bids for fire prevention projects as necessary
• Delivers training to all staff on how the detection and fire suppression systems work and on the hazards of wood dust and methods for fire prevention
Required experiences include:
• High school diploma or equivalent; Post-secondary degree or diploma in Fire Science preferred
• Experience in wet/dry/fixed/non-fixed fire suppression systems in industrial environment preferred
• Must possess strong initiative and daily presence/engagement on the manufacturing floor and be equally comfortable managing administrative responsibilities in an office environment as this role is 60% operational and 40% administrative
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word; Must be able to properly manage an incident database
• An ability to lead, coach, and achieve results through others is required
