MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly detailed on the application form on or before the last filing date: Open Competitive:
• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of library clerical experience; OR
• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and satisfactory completion of 60 verifiable credit hours at a regionally accredited New York State registered college or university
DUTIES:
• Employees in this class have had prior training or experience in the performance of library clerical operations.
• Under general supervision of a Principal Library Clerk or Librarian, incumbents supervise and/or perform moderately complex library clerical tasks in a functional unit of the library, i.e., Circulation/Technical Services, Youth Services, or Administration.
• The incumbent receives general instructions from a Principal Library Clerk or professional position, and may then plan, assign, and review the work of a small number of clerical workers or volunteers.
• The Senior Library Clerk performs more difficult clerical work requiring a higher degree of skill, experience, and independent judgment.
• Unusual or difficult procedures, questions, or decisions are referred to the Principal Library Clerk or Librarian in charge of the functional unit.
• A Senior Library Clerk may be required to assist in the training of new clerical employees.
• Supervision may be exercised over Library Clerks, Shelvers, or volunteers. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITES (Illustrative only):
• Provides information to the public on library policies and procedures;
• Establishes and maintains a high customer service performance standard;
• Answers telephones, takes messages, and directs callers to appropriate parties ;
• Uses computer applications or other automated systems-such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software-in performing work assignments
