Summary: Newsprint Attendants ensure newsprint rolls are available for press production and replenishes the newsprint warehouse from truck and rail car deliveries. What you will do: Prepare each roll before it is sent to the Pressroom by stripping, handling and inspection of newsprint rolls at the stripping station Follow established newsprint handling procedures at all times so newsprint is not damaged due to improper handling Timely unloading, inspection and accountability of newsprint from trucks and railcars Maintain accurate truck and rail car records. Inspect all rolls for transit damage and record any transit damage accordingly Be OSHA certified to operate clamp truck and forklift and understand proper use of clamp truck Use appropriate pressure for each roll size and perform clamp truck inspection prior to each use. Report any problems to group leader and/or manager Discard all waste – separating waste by category, record waste lbs on proper forms. Keep compactor area clean... (inside and outside).Bundle and stack cores in preparation for return Follow all safety rules and procedures. Report immediately any safety concern or accident to group leader and/or manager and report immediately any equipment malfunctions to group leader an/or manager Follow proper housekeeping procedures. Keep all areas clean on each shift What you will bring: A high school diploma or equivalent related experience Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time Operate a forklift truck and learn to drive a high stacking clamp truck Available to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays and to be on call for emergencies Well organized, self-motivated, a team player, possess initiative and be able to work with minimal guidance The ability to lift equipment that will weigh up to 50 lbs and able to walk for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, twist, etc Work in unfavorable conditions such as varying temperatures, dusty, dirty, greasy, etc... Physically able to push waste carts weighing 150 pounds and assist pushing rolls of newsprint weighing 2000 pounds on roll cart. • Ablity to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs
