6. votes. In my experience, Academia.edu is useful mostly for [2] - discovering relevant research. [1] happens mostly through participating in feedback sessions for unpublished manuscripts. Definitely not for [3] and [4], as they are not supported. Usefulness for discovery comes in 3 ways:

I keep getting spam / scam email from them saying I have been cited in numerous publications, which are all phony. I am not an academic and do not write academic material that would be read by academics. It is impossible to get them to stop sending this junk mail so I just direct it straight to the spam box. 2.

This is very useful website and not scam. this is very useful website. There are lots to study from this website. when i try to use this website in starting, its requested to upgrade as premium and i used my credit card to upgrade. And, they charged $99 form my account for a year.
