I'm not sure of an exact number, but you want to make sure your income justifies the card, regardless of whether you can approved or not. If you make 15k a year for example, you may not spend enough (without going into debt) that the annual fee makes sense. Gold with 830/$85k.

Check if your pre approved for the gold while logged in. Generally I recommend at least 30k income but that doesn't mean you won't qualify. It should be a soft pull even if denied As long as you have had the card for 2 months. I'm sure you'll get approved. You usually don't need as much I come for their charge cards.

I had no problem getting approved at 55k annual income and a 730 credit score. That said, I've heard that I could've gone for plat at that income, so I wouldn't be shocked if 35-40k is more than enough for gold. I make about 81k and the gold was my third Amex card. I've never been asked for employment verification.
