There are 40+ apps I mentioned in the below article. All tools are free to use (or freemium with a generous free version), and many of them are open-source (source code links are provided where applicable). Some of my favorite tools are Ditto clipboard manager, QuickLook, Clover, ImageGlass, ShareX, and Notepad2-mod.

Either way, it seems that SoftPedia was fine. Love Ninite, especially after reinstalling an OS. Ninite makes it easy to get most all of my favorite applications installed at once. Chocolatey.org. I get your point and in general I'd also prefer the original source, but these download sites often have ratings and let you search for alternatives. Sure you can get the information from google, but it's less convenient. If it's a real, trustworthy site they'll link the developers site anyway.

Sordum is probably fake, NirSoft is legit, but some apps are old and don't work on recent versions of Windows. Nir Sofer's software is excellent. A decent number of the apps on sordum are literally just UI's to set already existing Windows settings, most of which can already be set pretty easily.

This is likely the safest site on the list. The number of free apps is limited. It does cover most of the software that you'd install first on a new computer though. Chrome, Firefox, 7-zip, iTunes, VLC, Malwarebytes are amongst the free downloads Ninite can provide and manage.
