Come to work for us at 12News, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona as a digital content producer...

Our digital team serves as the front door for the station, breaking news every day. You’ll be writing and reporting as part of a tight-knit team that’s driven by results. Our digital content team is called The Herd and we deliver. We account for roughly 80 percent of overall content on the 12 News digital platforms and 100 percent of the breaking news We’re looking for aggressive reporter/writers who want to break stories and make our audiences smarter – and do it with style.

The digital producer in this position will spend about 50 percent of their time writing breaking news and 50 percent of the time writing enterprise stories. Our audience loves stories that dive in-depth on subjects as diverse as the environment and the state’s history, and this position will have an opportunity to write on that, but also follow their own interests. There are a lot of opportunities for original content and to build digital extras. It’s a job that you will get out of it as much as you put it into it.

Responsibilities:
• Creative storytelling of the highest journalistic standards
• Writing breaking news and enterprise stories
• Finding and executing stories that the audience finds intriguing and craveable

Requirements:
• Must have at least two years in a digital or TV newsroom
• Ability to create/edit material for digital platforms while meeting deadlines.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including mornings, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
• The ability to adhere to brand guidelines and standards is also a must.
• Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
• Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.

In This Role, You Will

• Develop news sources for general assignment and specialized areas of interest.
• Operate news gathering vehicles to and from various locations.

Here’s What You Need
• BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field
• 2-5 years of photojournalism experience
• Knowledge of non-linear editing systems, Edius experience a plus
• Proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
• SNG experience a plus
• Live Center/ENG coordination experience a plus
• Skills in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and After Effects a plus
• Demonstrated news judgment with an understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Must be team-oriented, have a positive attitude, and be a problem solver
• Must be flexible with schedule, reliable and dependable

Candidates should have a demo reel showcasing examples of their work (shooting, editing, and graphic treatments).

Responsibilities:
• Using research and applying sound brand strategy to develop and execute creative concepts via on-air news promos, station image campaigns, original content, and graphic design.
• Providing clear messaging to audience for station and client’s brand.
• Working alongside Sales Management, Account Executives, Marketing Producers, Agencies, and clients to produce high level commercial production that gets results.
• Working alongside News Management, Creative Manager, Producers, Digital staffers, and Reporters to produce high level news promotions that get results.
• Front line employee for the station that represents the brand externally by interacting with clients in person and through all forms of communication and internally by interacting with stakeholders across multiple departments.
• Shoot highly- stylized videos for campaigns using DSLR cameras and a variety of lenses and other production tools like sliders, dollies, gimbles, etc.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, design, or film.
• Minimum five years’ experience working in professional video production, preferably a media company and/or Ad Agency working in marketing video creation, promotional assets, commercial production. 
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Ability to edit both short (:05-:60) and long format (30 to 60 minute) projects.
• Demonstrated copywriting and scripting ability.

Your internship at 12 News will be very hands-on, and you will get experience in all the major areas of the newsroom. You will work with the assignment desk finding stories to cover and acquiring accurate information under deadline pressure for both digital and on-air platforms. You will work with the digital team, writing stories for 12News.com and the 12 News app. You will work with line producers and learn every aspect of getting a show on the air, from conception to the control room. You will work with the 12 News I-Team to help research, gather public records, conduct interviews with newsmakers and create digital story experiences on these special investigative reports. You will go out in the field with reporters and photographers to be a part of the story making process.

When the semester is over, you will have a strong fundamental understanding of what makes a good story and how to get the elements you need to tell that story well. We seek students who are creative thinkers, who will come daily to editorial meetings with ideas, and who will take initiative.
