We are seeking exceptional researchers with backgrounds in machine learning, statistics, genomics, bioinformatics, and/or computational biology. Successful candidates will have a passion for independent research and technical problem-solving, as well as a demonstrated ability to develop and implement research-based ideas.

Note: Though our Therapeutics office is located in South San Francisco, CA, this position will be remotely based in the Chicago, IL area. We will consider exceptional candidates throughout the United States who are open to relocating to Chicago.

What You’ll Do

In this new role, you will be responsible for developing innovative algorithms and analysis tools that integrate genetic variation information with molecular, cellular, and phenotypic data. You will collaborate with a talented team on complex projects and present your findings to internal 23andMe scientific teams and the wider scientific community.

Areas of focus may include language modeling, Bayesian models, graph embeddings, representation learning, generative models, and self-supervised learning techniques. Familiarity with analyzing protein structure information, deep mutational scanning data, chromatin accessibility, or gene expression data from both bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing would be advantageous, but it is not essential. What is more important is genuine intellectual curiosity, excellent research skills, and a proven track record of scientific innovation and success.

What You’ll Bring
• Ph.D. in the physical or life sciences (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Physics), or quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics)
• Minimum of 3 years post-Ph.D. work experience in an academic or for-profit setting
• Deep understanding of computational biology, genomics, or machine learning, as well as a successful record of academic or industry accomplishments, including the development of novel methods and analytical approaches for genomic data analysis
• Strong R or Python skills, and a working knowledge of SQL
• Experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms
• Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to convey complex technical concepts and scientific insights to diverse audiences
• Ability to work in dynamic team-oriented environment
• Experience conducting research in relevant disease areas such as metabolic diseases, immune diseases, or oncology is a plus
• Experience with Python-based machine learning libraries (Pytorch, TensorFlow, etc) highly desirable
• For Sr. Scientist level, will bring substantial industry experience (5+ years post-PhD) that will include leading one or more large scale collaborative projects, working with very large and highly complex data sets, and/or managing individual contributors including PhD-level scientists

What You’ll Do

Translation of genetic signals available to 23andMe into actionable targets requires computational expertise and biological understanding to analyze, integrate and interpret results from high-throughput functional data in a way that enables efficient decision making and ultimately drives drug discovery.

We are looking for a computational biology scientist with a strong background in genetics. The ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience leading creative and independent research designing, planning, analyzing and interpreting a broad range of omics datasets with an emphasis on understanding the underlying biology.

They will extend existing target discovery efforts by developing or implementing novel analytical methods to deliver on our translational strategy; work toward identifying clinically relevant disease subtypes and associated therapeutic targets; and contribute to drive on-going therapeutic development programs.

What You’ll Bring
• Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Genetics or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years post-Ph.D. work experience, including industry experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
• Demonstrated experience in translating genetics into biological mechanisms
• Experience in leading complex collaborative projects from strategic planning to deployment of analytical capabilities as well as data needed to pursue drug discovery opportunities
• Interest in understanding molecular patho-mechanisms determining disease initiation and/or progression
• Experience in performing integrative omics analysis (genetics, genomics, proteomics, etc.)
• Knowledge of biology in at least one disease-relevant area

The successful candidate will be working as part of a highly skilled team generating genetically modified complex models for collaborative research, utilizing genome-editing technology in combination with classic genetics approaches in stem cells. We are seeking a talented and highly collaborative Portfolio and Project Management professional who will bring a proven track record of managing drug development programs from early research through clinical development. This role will report to the Sr. Director, Therapeutics Portfolio and Project Management Lead.

What You’ll Do
• Responsible for partnering with project team leaders for managing multiple therapeutic projects to timely decision points from discovery to development phases
• Establish and maintain integrated project timelines and ensure accurate inputs are provided by all functional leads. Ensure alignment with functional representatives and overall program and company goals

We are seeking an exceptional, highly motivated, detail oriented, and collaborative Scientist to help grow our newly formed Complex Model Generation unit. The successful candidate will be working as part of a highly skilled team generating genetically modified complex models for collaborative research, utilizing genome-editing technology in combination with classic genetics approaches in stem cells. The candidate will also work with the team to propel innovative technologies forward by researching and investigating new methods for complex model generation.

What You’ll Do
• Collaborate with biology groups (immunology, cardiometabolic and oncology) to develop strategies and identify opportunities to apply complex, disease-relevant in vitro and/or in vivo models to support our drug discovery efforts.
• Build capability with human iPSC- and murine ES cell- technology platforms. This may include developing robust processes for purification, expansion, differentiation, and editing into different lineages, 3D cultures, or organoids.
