The Career & Practice Strategist works with the Director, Center for Career & Practice, to support members, track trends, and develop resources in three areas: (1) family medicine scope of practice; (2) physician employment and career development; and (3) Direct Primary Care. The Strategist also serves as a content contributor to Family Practice Management (FPM), a peer-reviewed journal for family physicians.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline like health services administration, or public health, plus at least four years of related work experience. Familiarity with physician employment issues, privileging, credentialing, Direct Primary Care, and family medicine team-based care preferred. The associate editor helps shape the content of American Family Physician, a peer-reviewed, editorially independent clinical journal published 12 times per year with a print circulation of approximately 180,000 and website visitors totaling 3,400,000 per month. See www.aafp.org/afp . This is accomplished primarily by editing physician-authored clinical review articles and departments for publication in print and digital platforms. Special projects and other duties as assigned. The associate editor is part of a 10-member editorial staff that works closely with contracted medical editors in a quality-focused, deadline-driven environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, or related field and a minimum of two years of professional editing experience are required. Periodical publishing and clinical editing experience are preferred.

The primary function of this position is to act as a resource and consultant to chapter staff and elected leaders in the key areas of membership and chapter operations. The Strategist maintains one-on-one relationships with chapter leaders and staff and applies knowledge in the key areas to create and implement customized plans to enhance the capacity of the chapters and their current needs. REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree or through equivalent work experience, plus at least 4-6 years of related professional experience. At least five years association experience highly preferred with specialized knowledge in the key areas of membership and operations. Required skills and experience include: volunteer management; experience with association membership development and chapter operations; experience speaking in front of groups and planning meetings; and experience in communicating information (whether in print or verbally). Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, strategic thinking, oral and written communications skills, project management, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work with little supervision necessary. CAE certification preferred.

Summary

Internship lasts total of 120 hours over a 10–15 week period. Weekly schedule is very flexible. This is a hybrid position, with some time required in the Leawood, Kansas office.

Job Description

The Center for the History of Family Medicine (CHFM) is the primary repository of information and resources on the history and evolution of general practice, family practice and the specialty of family medicine in the United States. The Center endeavors to play a major role in informing through history the transformation of the future of family medicine as a discipline. Its archives serve as the official repository for both the records of the major family medicine organizations and leaders within the specialty.

The Center also features a professionally staffed, climate-controlled facility utilizing archival-quality materials for preserving records and artifacts of enduring historical value, and offers a variety of programs and services, such as an oral history project to help capture and preserve the ongoing history of family medicine; research fellowship and internship programs; and both research and reference services.

Position Title: Archive Intern

Position Summary: This internship will provide archive and library graduate students an opportunity to learn valuable skills related to the field. Interns are exposed to a broad spectrum of library and archival work: copyright, preservation, reference, access, and information technology.

The intern will work with a team of two, under the supervision of the CHFM Manager and staff, on various tasks including:
• Cataloging the archive collection in order to broaden access to the collection;
• Assisting with the creation of finding aids;
• Working with oral history collection;
• Contributing to social media outreach;

Required Qualifications: No previous experience is necessary, but applicants should be enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a Library and Archives graduate program.

Physical Demands: Ability to climb stairs and ladders; lift 30 lbs.

Salary: A scholarship of $1800 will be awarded upon completion of the required hours.

This position is responsible for partnering with business and project owners in providing convention and event logistical management for specific AAFP conventions and events with a primary focus in sponsorship fulfillment and activation for the two largest conventions. Additional logistical management duties include, but are not limited to, location/site research, RFP preparation, budget recommendations and management, contract negotiations and preparation, site selection, creation and delivery of onsite event specifications to vendors/key suppliers, onsite management, reconciliation and payment of final bills, etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree or through equivalent work experience with at least two years experience in meeting planning or closely related field. Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and/or Digital Event Strategist (DES) certification preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience with the coordination and delivery of educational content, preferably, continuing medical education live, virtual and online programming. Experience with live events preferred. This individual will be intrinsically motivated, identifying issues early, and working toward win-win solutions to problems. They should have impeccable communications skills and experience building relationships and collaborating across functional areas with internal and external collaborators to achieve objectives. The position requires strong customer service skills, strong emotional intelligence, as well as strong verbal and written skills, to professionally interact with physicians and customers via phone, email, and onsite at live/livestream meetings. The Member Support and Operations Specialist is the frontline contact with our members/customers. Our team goal is to ensure member/customer requests are handled professionally and timely while inspiring member loyalty. The MSO Specialist is responsible for handling member/customer contacts through our various channels (Phone, Chat, Email). This role requires the ability to handle a high volume of contacts efficiently and accurately while maintaining service level agreements. A successful specialist can quickly adapt to the current business need. The specialist will engage in meaningful conversations by building rapport and further convey/demonstrate member value within the AAFP. We are seeking employees who are self-motivated, utilize effective troubleshooting/probing techniques, and have experience with fluctuating work volumes/deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide superior level of customer service to internal and external contacts.
- Responsible for meeting service level goals.
- Responsible for team/individual metric goals.
- Utilize effective troubleshooting techniques and problem-solving skills.
- Identify and handle member/customer contacts and inquiries completely, accurately, and timely regardless of channel (in and outbound phone, e-mail, mail, fax, etc.) in a fast-paced environment.
- Resolve member/customer complaints and problems to the satisfaction of the member/customer, including any questions/issues requiring follow-up and exercises independent judgment within set guidelines.
- Enter member/customer data and other relevant information into Association Management System or other data repository as required. Exceptional data entry skills are highly desired.
- Educate the member/customer about AAFP's products and services, maximizing the opportunity to inform them about AAFP Programs, Products, Projects and Services.
- Maintain confidentiality of AAFP members/customers and data.
- Participate and effectively communicate in individual and team meetings.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule.
- Must be adaptable to an ever-changing environment.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in high volume call center environment preferred.
- Exceptional attendance required.
- Have experience with "one contact resolution" skills.
- Salesforce experience/Association Management System experience preferred.
- Customer Service/communication skills.
- Multitasking skills required.
- Positive, professional and customer-oriented attitude.

Job Description

The Center for the History of Family Medicine (CHFM) is the primary repository of information and resources on the history and evolution of general practice, family practice and the specialty of family medicine in the United States. The Center endeavors to play a major role in informing through history the transformation of the future of family medicine as a discipline. Its archives serve as the official repository for both the records of the major family medicine organizations and leaders within the specialty.

The Center also features a professionally staffed, climate-controlled facility utilizing archival-quality materials for preserving records and artifacts of enduring historical value, and offers a variety of programs and services, such as an oral history project to help capture and preserve the ongoing history of family medicine; research fellowship and internship programs; and both research and reference services.

Position Title: Archive Intern

Position Summary: This internship will provide archive and library graduate students an opportunity to learn valuable skills related to the field. Interns are exposed to a broad spectrum of library and archival work: copyright, preservation, reference, access, and information technology.

The Intern Will Work With a Team Of Two, Under The Supervision Of The CHFM Manager And Staff, On Various Tasks Including
• Cataloging the archive collection in order to broaden access to the collection;
• Assisting with the creation of finding aids;
• Working with oral history collection;
• Contributing to social media outreach;

Required Qualifications: No previous experience is necessary, but applicants should be enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a Library and Archives graduate program.

Physical Demands: Ability to climb stairs and ladders; lift 30 lbs.

Salary: A scholarship of $1800 will be awarded upon completion of the required hours.

As a key member of the Executive Management Team (EMT), the Senior Vice President of Marketing Communications is primarily responsible for leading strategic development and implementation of the marketing and advertising activities, all internal & external communications, digital experience inclusive of social media, convention and meeting planning, all sales and revenue driving activities. This person will play a critical leadership role in driving approximately $50M in annual gross revenue and for growing existing and developing new revenue streams for the organization. A key expectation of this role is to fully integrate all marketing communication efforts to deliver on intended goals efficiently and effectively.

The SVP of Marketing Communications will work collaboratively with other executives to execute organizational strategies and plans to ensure the organization’s priorities and revenue goals are met, which ultimately enables delivering on the mission of the organization.

This role reports to the Chief Strategy Officer and is responsible for managing, providing direction, and aligning the work of multiple VP’s, Directors, and teams. Key Responsibilities Include

Provides strategic guidance for live events to ensure they are relevant and deliver on current and future needs for exhibitors, attendees, and the organization. This includes all strategic planning, implementation, and promotion of AAFP events, including FMX, the AAFP’s largest convention.

Experience Requirements: This position requires a bachelor’s degree and at least fifteen years of related work experience.

• 10+ years of demonstrated experience successfully leading a large marketing team in a digital environment to meet company or organization’s established goals is required.
• Must understand and have successfully led full marketing communications integration efforts.
• Role requires demonstrated success in leading a team tasked with driving several million in sales or grant revenue.
• Must have experience leading dynamic communications efforts for a large organization, inclusive of success in public relations, communication channel development and messaging strategy.

The Research Investigator and Director of Evaluation ensures that the AAFP NRN conducts high quality research and evaluation activities, provides evaluation science content expertise, and serves as a principal investigator/co-investigator on research and evaluation proposals including responding to funding opportunities by writing and contributing to concept papers and proposals; leading implementation of projects; reporting; and disseminating results of their work through presentations and publications.
This person will be responsible for supporting leadership and project staff with planning, conducting, and tracking the research and evaluation efforts and productivity of the NRN.
This person will also be expected to actively seek opportunities to undertake collaborations within the Research, Science, and Health of the Public Segment and across Academy program areas.

REQUIREMENTS:
Doctoral degree in a related academic field is required.
