Academia.edu is a platform for academics to share research papers, post and access job opportunities, and collaborate with other academics. It is a free online repository of scholarly work, enabling scholars, researchers, and students to share their research and follow the work of others. Academics can also build their professional profile, track the impact of their work, and join vibrant research communities. With over 60 million users, Academia.edu connects academics from around the world and facilitates the sharing of knowledge and ideas. It is a great tool for collaboration, networking, and staying up to date with the latest research.
However, it isn’t supported by an educational institute and doesn’t currently qualify for the .edu domain; instead, it is a .com website.cofes.comBeginning as a free and open site, Academia.edu registered under the .edu domain when that domain was not limited to educational institutions.
I don't find it has any use any more. Its main benefit was exposing your research to a broad audience. But it stopped doing that a year ago: now you need to open an account to see anything at all.reddit.comAcademia.edu isn't quite as predatory, and in fact was a pretty good site up until a couple of years ago, but it has done a lot more paywalling.
The free version has ads. However the premium version which allows you to view where your own name is mentioned, costs about $110. per year. The student rate is lower. Job Description
As the Senior Product Manager of Academia’s Mentions business, you will lead a cross-functional team of engineers, analysts & designers to grow the Academia Premium business. You will do this by improving Academia’s ability to:
1.) Search the corpus of research for author references, mentions & citations
2.) Match the mention, reference or citation to a registered Academia author
3.) Notify the registered Academia author of the relevant mention in novel/compelling ways
You bring targeted marketing expertise with deep experience in data-driven algorithmic matching, either from a background in personalization or recommendation products and services. You are deeply experienced with audience segmentation analysis, cohort matching, value proposition marketing, experimental validation & effective subscriber conversion methodologies. You are a customer-obsessed data hound, extremely analytical, revenue-focused, technically literate, an excellent communicator, and an effective leader of teams.
