Description

This is a midlevel position with potential for growth in financial oversight and other responsibilities. The Senior Accountant will oversee daily dues tracking and complete the implementation of the dues database system we are now installing. Dues-related duties include oversight of distribution of local and international per capita payments, allocation of dues to internal Council funds, help with member data tracking, and communication with related organizations. As a member of our 3-person finance team, duties will also include some work with payroll and benefits and other routine small-business financial tasks.

The Senior Accountant reports to Council’s fiscal director and will occasionally take lead roles on projects related to their work and that of the department. There is potential to work with our 150+ independent member locals on finance and compliance matters, including performing training and facilitating member leader skills development. Over the next several years this position could become a more senior oversight role and play a bigger role in reporting and financial policy development.

Required Qualifications
• At least four years experience in labor/nonprofit financial management
• Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills
• Comfort with remote work self-discipline and working independently, as well as taking on leadership roles when necessary
• The ability to manage one's time on multiple projects with multiple deadlines
• A commitment to advancing workers’ rights and support for labor organizing
• Intermediate-to-advanced experience working with MS or Google office suites, most specifically spreadsheets
• Ability to work on complex processes with many different people with widely varying levels of sophistication and experience

Desirable Qualifications
• Familiarity or experience with labor unions, dues collection and related finance and compliance areas
• Comfort with remote-work-related technology
• Experience working with and evaluating vendors
• Experience using Salesforce and other data management systems
• Strong cross-cultural and/or multi-linguistic competence

WORKING CONDITIONS

Some in-person office work will be required, and more is permissible, but much of the work can be done remotely. Some travel and irregular hours may be required. Position can be based in either Portland or Salem, OR, but some work, including much of initial training, will occur in person in Salem. This position is covered under Council 75’s staff union contract.

Excellent pay and benefits (scale as of 4/23 is $30.75-$40.00/hour base (equivalent of up to 83k/year) plus differential for lead work when assigned; 15% employer-paid 401k contribution, and high-end, fully paid family health/dental). Purpose:

We are currently seeking a Digital Communications Associate that will report directly to the Communications Manager. The Digital Communications Associate will support the earned media, online media, internal, and external communications needs of the largest union at the University of California. Under the supervision of the Communications Manager, they will work to support a fast growing and dynamic communications operation—including executing the organization’s digital content and delivery, including but not limited to social media channels and electronic communications, developing and implementing a proactive digital communications strategy to increase the union’s social media presence to advance 3299’s brand and reputation. This is a great opportunity for an eager communications professional with a commitment to social justice and working families.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Digital Communications Associate will:
• Develop digital engagement strategies to support 3299’s strategic plan and programs.
• Provide training, guidance, and support to local staff, members, and leaders to develop social media and digital engagement plans/strategies.
• Work with the Communications team to develop an annual editorial calendar to help develop a proactive communications strategy.
• Work with the Communications team to develop and place digital and social media ads to support 3299’s strategic goals.
• Be responsible for content updates, structural changes and aesthetic design of website, landing pages, and campaign microsites.
• Work with content editors and key stakeholders across the association to ensure that online content reflects 3299’s goals and vision.
• Travel throughout the state of California to support 3299 members, leaders and staff.
• Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications and Skills Include:
• 1-3 years social and digital media experience in a professional capacity.
• Photography, video/audio editing, and/or graphic design skills are a plus.
• Extensive experience with online organizing and social media technology.
• Knowledge of the latest social media trends, with an ability to identify new trends, platforms, ideas and campaigns.
• Demonstrated experience with web and graphic design platforms and basic design skills for electronic and print publications and social media.
• Experience with elevating digital presence through search engine optimization.
• Experience developing and placing social media and digital ads to amplify organizational and campaign messaging.
• Proficiency in the use of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
• Knowledge of the labor movement, including principles of union organizing and collective bargaining.
• Ability to quickly synthesize and distill large quantities of complex policy and/or issue related information.
• Experience with online organizing and social media technology.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills.
• Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• Sound political judgment.
• Bi-lingual, Spanish/Cantonese/Tagalog/English is preferred.

Purpose:

We are seeking a responsible, high-energy, mature, well-organized, Administrative Assistant to perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of having worked in a fast-paced office environment and be capable of handling multiple and diverse assignments. Labor or campaign experience preferred.

Responsibilities will include:
• Answer phone calls, provide information to callers or connect callers to appropriate people and respond to e‐mail inquiries.
• Greet and provide general front support to visitors and staff.
• Provide general clerical support to staff in HQ Office and satellite offices statewide.
• Collate, process and distribute all incoming and outgoing mail for Satellite Offices
• Make travel arrangements, schedule appointments and update calendars.
• Prepare communications, such as emails, reports and type regular correspondence, such as Membership Enrollment and Cancellation letters to University of California statewide.
• Database management for our Membership Portfolio.
• Create spreadsheets and assist, when necessary, in the development and preparation of presentation material, campaign material, and campaign propaganda.
• Maintain filing systems, both electronic and physical.
• Coordinate and plan logistics for rallies and other actions/events, including onsite support.
• Travel statewide to other satellite offices and Headquarters in Oakland, CA.
• Other administrative support as assigned by the Administrative Manager

Requirements and skills
• Proven work experience of two (2) years or more as an administrative assistant.
• In-dept understanding of office management and daily operations.
• Hands on experience with MS Office Suite, Google Suite, Adobe, DocuSign, Zoom and Database entry.
• Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers, fax machines, scanners.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to type an average of 60 words per minute, (proof required)
• Possess a valid CA Driver's License and at least one (1) year of driving experience.
• High School Diploma or AA Degree required.

Bilingual Spanish/Chinese and other languages are a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements (as required by ADA)
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Work is performed in a variety of employment settings. Driving, travel, temporary assignments, irregular and extended work hours are required.
