The Special Expert will conceptualize, design, and implement extramural and some intramural research initiatives. Other activities will include: working with stakeholders, including physicians, health care provider organizations, patients, CDS developers, professional associations, Federal and private payers, and others; reviewing materials, technical reports, legislation and other documents which have substantive programmatic policy implications for the CDS program and making recommendations. The Special Expert will also curate and disseminate AHRQ s CDS work. The Special Expert will identify new and cultivate external partnerships related to CDS.
• Providing substantive informatics perspective to the research and program development activities under AHRQ s PCOR CDS initiative.

8) The National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report (NHQDR)
The NHQDR is the Nation’s report on state of healthcare delivery in the United States. The NHQDR team compiles and synthesizes data from across the Department of HHS and from multiple other data partners to produce an annual report to Congress. The Fellow will identify one or more topics of interest to examine NHQDR resources and generate materials that inform the public about the topic(s).
9) AHRQ Quality Indicators
The AHRQ Quality Indicators (QIs) are measures that use readily available hospital administrative data to monitor clinical performance, quality of care, patient safety, and outcomes. Current QIs include measures of potentially avoidable hospital admissions, adverse events after certain procedures, and mortality during hospitalizations for certain conditions. The Fellow will conduct groundwork needed to evolve the measures to address contemporary topics in healthcare quality improvement and quality measurement.

This project will provide the basic science information for medical practitioners to understand, detect, and prevent errors by implementing safer practices and for the public to understand the frame of diagnostic safety.
8) The National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report (NHQDR)
The NHQDR is the Nation’s report on state of healthcare delivery in the United States. The NHQDR team compiles and synthesizes data from across the Department of HHS and from multiple other data partners to produce an annual report to Congress. The Fellow will identify one or more topics of interest to examine NHQDR resources and generate materials that inform the public about the topic(s).
9) AHRQ Quality Indicators
The AHRQ Quality Indicators (QIs) are measures that use readily available hospital administrative data to monitor clinical performance, quality of care, patient safety, and outcomes. Current QIs include measures of potentially avoidable hospital admissions, adverse events after certain procedures, and mortality during hospitalizations for certain conditions. The Fellow will conduct groundwork needed to evolve the measures to address contemporary topics in healthcare quality improvement and quality measurement.

Only U.S. citizens or citizens who have gained U.S. citizenship through naturalization may be considered. Applicants who are non-immigrant visa holders or immigrant green card holders (i.e., permanent residents) are ineligible for consideration.
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition, applicants must have an advanced degree (a master's degree or higher-level degree) with a concentration in Health Services Research, (e.g., Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Epidemiology) or a Health-related or Research field. In addition, applicants should possess and be able to demonstrate a fundamental understanding of research, statistics, and scientific terminology and an ability to communicate information orally and in writing.
