DESCRIPTION:The BLS Program Coordinator / Paramedic Lead Instructor prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction of all emergency medical services programs. Develops program syllabi, goals and objectives. Evaluates students' and instructors' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests. Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences. Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues. Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts. This position will work with both Curriculum and Continuing Education sides of the college. This position will report to the EMS Program Director.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned:Maintain current credentialing at or above the level of the course to which they are assigned
• Implement lesson plans developed in collaboration with the program administrator
• Deliver instruction using an appropriate variety of instructional methodologies
• Assist with course content development, delivery, and revision in collaboration with the program director and lead instructors
• Coordinate with program administrator the scheduling of substitute and/or co-instructors
• Provide appropriate oversight and role modeling for instructors, and provide written feedback on instructor performance periodically to the program administrator
• Prepare and submit all College-required paperwork, including attendance, student sign-in sheets, timesheets, student counseling reports, and other assigned paperwork
• Manage and maintain all electronic platforms utilized for the course to which they are assigned
• Maintain, compile, and report results of evaluations of students along the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains
• Create course examinations in collaboration with the program administrator and medical director
• Attend all mandatory professional development activities scheduled by the college and/or the department
• Conduct student counseling sessions with each student a minimum of once per course and submit counseling reports as per policy
• Maintain paperwork and assure all college and state regulations are satisfactory complied.
• Perform other duties as assigned

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:Education Required:
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution in Emergency Medical Science (EMS) or field closely related
• North Carolina Paramedic Credential
• North Carolina Level I Instructor
• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor

Education Preferred:
• Master’s degree in Emergency Medical Science (EMS) or field closely related
• North Carolina Level II Instructor
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor
• Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Instructor
• Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification

Experience Required:

Plan and deliver high-quality, evidence-based instruction to students in content areas: Math, writing, reading, social studies, science, digital literacy, and job readiness that are aligned with the NC Adult Education Content Standards. Provide contextualized instruction in whole-class/individual settings. Maintain daily lesson plans. Use methodologies that support different learning styles. Clearly communicate with students to convey areas for improvement on a regular basis

Monitor and manage student learning and performance through data. Complete all required documentation accurately and on time to meet program goals (ex: Web Attendance, EFL gains spreadsheets, LEIS forms, timesheets, etc). Adapt instruction based on assessment data. Our data and paperwork practices are a vital part of our program. It is imperative instructors are organized, complete their necessary paperwork, and ensure they have attention to detail with both paperwork and entering crucial data such as attendance.

Effectively communicate to motivate and engage learners. It is necessary for instructors to be available and accessible to students via email and phone. Instructors must be able to effectively stay connected to students. Maintain control of the classroom and convey our mission, policies, and procedures. Relate to a diverse student population of adult learners. Refer students to appropriate contacts for additional resources. Manage student behavior and enforce ACC's code of conduct and attendance policies. Must have experience or be willing to learn and navigate online instruction. It is a necessity for our instructors to be open to engaging students in online mediums including, but not limited to Zoom, Essentials Ed, Aztec, Edmentum, etc.

Pursue professionalism and continually build knowledge and skills. Model excellent attendance and punctuality in class. In the event of an absence, secure a substitute and communicate with the program coordinator. Communicate effectively with other staff members. Attend local professional staff development sessions each semester. March in ceremony and/or assist with graduation once a year. Obtain a state-recognized credential within 2 years of employment. Set a professional goal yearly.

Must be able to effectively integrate and build learners' digital literacy skills. Consistently use online computer programs and manage students' online seats and progress. Utilize projectors, smart boards, document camera, email, web attendance, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Moodle.
Typical Qualifications

(Education and Experience) BA/BS degree plus experience working with adult students in an educational or social work environment.
