We are looking for an Executive Underwriter – Cargo.  This role will be based in our New York office.

At AGCS we offer coverage for international transit, domestic transit, stock through-put, project cargo (including delay in start-up) and tailored coverages with specialized wording linked to industry segments.

The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Underwriting Manager Cargo, this position will take prime responsibility for underwriting profitable new and renewal business to meet the Cargo line of business targets in accordance with underwriting guidelines and underwriting authority. In addition, negotiate pricing, and terms and conditions, own accounts/clients, while developing and maintaining strong relationships with producers and clients in partnership with Market Management.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include: 
• Underwriting new and renewable accounts to meet top and bottom-line targets (local and/or regional). Negotiating participation, pricing and terms and conditions with brokers.
• Underwriting in line with LoB governance framework – e.g., Underwriting authorities, global MSU, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles while ensuring utilization of global pricing tools.
• Ensuring accurate policy documentation issued to broker or broker has issued documentation.
• Supporting development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy.
• Training, developing, and coaching less experienced staff.
• Proactively support acquisition of new business, retention of existing business, and proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations, Risk Managers, and other relevant stakeholders.

   

What You’ll Bring to the Role – 

We'd like to find someone with a minimum 7 years’ proven track record in underwriting profitable Cargo business, demonstrable, established relationships with brokers at the peer group level and established within the market. A good understanding of regional/location and competitor landscape with preferably a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management or Business Administration. Completion of a professional insurance qualification.

The annualized base pay range for this role is $151,254 to $270,810. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The base pay is just one component of the AGCS total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.

Your Team

Our Allianz Risk Consulting (ARC) team is made up of experienced engineers from a wide range of technical and scientific disciplines. The team provides a flexible range of risk consulting services, from natural hazards, fire safety, and human and organizational risk factors to in-depth analysis of industry operations, and financial exposures, across all industry sectors and risks. We also focus on delivering bespoke training plans to help optimize risk management procedures in the long term.

Our risk consulting teams have many years of practical experience of leading the largest engineering risks and construction projects across the globe, covering a wide range of engineering classes, including heavy civil engineering projects. We are able to call on many years of specific business risk experience – creating tailor-made risk management services to respond to unique challenges.

The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Property Manager of Account Engineering CE, this position will take prime responsibility for providing Property Risk Engineering expertise, support, and assistance to AGCS and its customers, to assist Allianz Underwriting in risk selection and retention of accounts. Responsibilities include both on site (location level) risk evaluation and account level/desktop review risk assessment. Provide ongoing co-ordination and monitoring of the loss control activity / servicing of assigned accounts & loss control survey work to assist with servicing of assigned accounts. Develop and maintain professional working relationships with underwriting, clients, brokers, marketing/distribution, and claims. Maintain and enhance technical skills and expertise in respective field to support the business. Full account needs preferred (property, general liability, work comp, and auto) with heavy emphasis on property or ability and willingness to quickly increase needed skill set.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
• Support independently large clients or clients with complex business. Complete on-site risk assessments and plan reviews for underwriting and insureds, evaluating and summarizing exposures and controls. Complete account level overviews, desk top reviews and risk assessments for underwriting evaluating and summarizing exposures and controls. This will be necessary for not only manufacturing types of accounts but for Soft Occupancy business as well.
• Survey large client operations in all business areas, obtain appropriate data, identify hazards, discuss findings with appropriate parties. Generate loss control reports, recommendations etc. Work with underwriting, the client, and the broker where appropriate to develop customized loss control programs including locations to be surveyed (or included as part of continuing service), scope and cost of risk consulting services. Conduct client stewardship meetings, and work with claims post loss as required.
• Generate appropriate, technically accurate work product (Account Engineering annual account summaries, Prospect desktop reviews, loss control reports, recommendations, confirmation letters, etc.) as a result of account coordination activities as well as providing technically accurate loss control reports as a result of on-site risk evaluations. Conduct all work in accordance with ASI requirements, GSOP requirements, and reporting deadlines in accordance with departmental performance objectives. Ensure appropriate data entry and quality in accordance with GSOP and management requirements.
• This position requires good time management, organization, and communication with internal and external customer skills. Review, analyze and be able to comprehend third party as well as AGCS reports, recommendations, and correspondence received from other engineers to combine the thoughts into a relevant deliverable of year end account summaries to the underwriters. Requires communication with third party service providers, clients, brokers, insured risk management depts, etc. Correspond and follow up with the relevant parties.
• Assist AGCS and clients with respect to ongoing or specific projects. Participate in Business Expert Groups/Industry Verticals and other ARC initiatives. Participate in ARC Global (inter-regional), cross-LoB and/or cross-functional projects as warranted. Assist with training within ARC Corporate Property, other LoB's and other functions (e.g., underwriting) as requested.

What You’ll Bring to the Role –
• We'd like to find someone with a minimum 5 years’ loss prevention engineering experience in an HPR type insurance environment relevant to the Property lob.
• Good knowledge and professional experience in various business sectors.
• Experience managing/coordinating large global corporate property accounts within various occupancy sectors.
• Experience in specialist industries (semi-conductor, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive) or hazards (Nat-Cat, BI/IBI/CBI/supply chain, emerging risks) is a plus.
• Experience in the insurance industry – being able to talk the language of insurance as well as loss prevention/fire protection including NATCAT, loss estimates derivation, sprinklers/water supply/surveillance/construction etc.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or other Engineering type discipline.
• Bachelor’s degree in another related discipline will be considered in conjunction with extensive technical expertise or experience in the HPR insurance industry.
• Professional designation preferred (i.e., CSP, ASP, CFPS, ARM, ALCM, PE, or other).

Your Team

The Predictive Analytics team is part of the Global Pricing department at AGCS and is responsible for driving the use of Predictive Analytics within Pricing across AGCS globally. You will join an international department located across London, Munich, Bucharest, Chicago and New York.

The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Head of Predictive Analytics, as Predictive Modelling Manager you will lead the delivery of data driven pricing models for US MidCorp lines of business at AGCS. This person will need to collaborate internationally with various stakeholders, both within Global Pricing and across other AGCS functions.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
• Lead the delivery of predictive pricing projects across various business lines
• Define scope, timelines and implementation plans for each project, and actively manage to them
• Establish an excellent working relationship with Pricing, Underwriting and Senior Management to ensure their buy in for the models being developed by the team
• Ensure that models being developed are of a market leading technical standard
• Drive the development of consistent project management processes across the team
• Develop an expert knowledge of the company’s data and data systems
• Assist in reviewing team outputs and providing timely feedback and coaching
• Market the team’s achievements across the business

What You’ll Bring to the Role

Required experience/education:
• 7+ years’ experience in building and implementing predictive models in the insurance industry, preferably for P&C commercial lines
• 3+ years’ experience in managing and delivering complex projects with multiple stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of P&C insurance and pricing techniques
• Experience of building pricing models for Mid-Large Corp business preferable
• Qualified P&C Actuary preferable
• Advanced degree in a quantitative field desirable, preferably with significant emphasis on statistical modelling or machine learning, e.g. Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science or a related field

Technical skills:
• Understanding of a wide range of classical and modern statistical and machine learning methods such as GLMs, decision trees, ensemble and regularization techniques etc. Experience with Bayesian approaches desirable
• Experience building and validating models using statistical software (Python, R, Emblem, SAS etc.)
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively with large data sets from a variety of sources, including both internal and external data
• SQL programming skills required
• Experience with version control tools such as GitHub desirable

• Ability to build strong working relationships both within the team and across the business
• Ability to manage several projects at once and effectively prioritise time spent on each

Proactively investigate, evaluate and negotiate resolution of assigned Auto Physical Damage claims in accordance with established best practices and assure claims are handled within granted autonomy limits.

Which will include risk visualization, ensuring tools tie in with the Authority grid and Functional Rule to support adherence, close cooperation with the Allianz Global National Cat Management team and CFO risk management to ensure E&C is aligned with the overall Nat Cat and accumulation control strategy and that E&C values are correctly reported and reflected, and supporting pricing and model development to ensure risks and values are appropriately reflected.

• Running Catastrophe loss modelling reports and preparing regular and ad-hoc data extracts and reports for the monitoring of energy and construction global loss potential
• Portfolio analyses, CAT limit monitoring, global business steering, collaboration with product leaders and regional underwriting specialists

As Regional Director of Communications you will oversee the development and execution of internal communication to support both our business objectives and high employee engagement. You’ll oversee and mentor a small regional team of internal and external communicators to ensure strategies and work are harmonized across the region.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Develop a cohesive employee communication philosophy that supports regional business objectives and associate engagement.
• Manage and develop best-in-class employee communication, change management and engagement campaigns and programs to ensure effective flow of communication.
• In addition to supporting local CEO and executive communication, manage and execute on regional communication needs in cooperation with the regional CEO.
• Actively contribute to our global community through best-practice sharing and advising.
• Manage regional communication budgets, resources and related KPIs
• Manage our Corporate Social Responsibility program and internal events to increase employee engagement and promote our brand and culture.
• Work with and oversee internal and external communication teams to understand our business and backup as needed
• Collaborates and consults with local and regional leaders, project managers and HR colleagues to provide direction and expertise for all internal communication.
• Partners with global and regional colleagues to leverage associate communication opportunities and to implement activities and strategies.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field or combination of relevant education and work experience
• 10 years’ experience minimum in Communications functions in an international environment and ability to work efficiently with a global team of colleagues and cross-functional stakeholders
• 5 years’ management experience
• Experience in managing communications experts.
• Knowledge of the overall functioning of: press relations, social media, monitoring, internal communication (intranet, CMS), event organization, video editing, images
• Strong autonomy with demonstrated ability to effectively work and lead in a matrixed environment
• Diplomacy and listening skills
• Use of Office 365 suite (SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Excellent relational skills, collaborative attitude and team spirit, ability to engage/motivate various stakeholders in new ideas or projects
• Excellent level of verbal and written English. Additional language skills are a plus.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
• Position is expected to travel less than 10% of the time.
