Position Overview: AGI is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting & Finance to oversee the accounting and operations functions of the Institute. The successful candidate will have a background in overseeing a nonprofit accounting department, developing and presenting financial reports and analysis to a Board of Directors, and tax and audit prep. This individual will report to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, and will serve on the Audit Committee and Finance Committee.

Reports to: Executive Director

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; oversees the system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Audit and manage direct use of Great Plains.
• Prepare financial statements and reports for quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
• Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
• Works with external firm and provides needed information for annual tax preparation.
• Manage activities related to accounts payable, payroll, cash receipts, billing, and general ledger functions.
• Support and advise the Executive Director and Board of Directors in financial decision-making.
• Lead annual budgeting process including financial analysis and projections.
• Monitor and report on organizational revenue and expenditures, ensuring accuracy, integrity and credibility of financial statements.
• Coordinate the accounting for and reporting on grant revenue and expenditures.
• Assist in the implementation of AGI’s strategic plan.
• Oversee building operations and interact with a variety of outside consultants/contractors to ensure a highly safe and productive workspace for all staff.
• Supervise Senior Accountant.
• Ensure compliance with banking policies and procedures, reconciles monthly bank statements, initiates transfers and wires as needed, and monitors ACH activities.
• Monitors investment accounts, reports activities including cash flows with banks, and performance.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA preferred
• Minimum 7 years of accounting experience in a non-profit environment, preferably with experience with NSF, SAM. and ASAP.
• Knowledge of Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles.
• Previous accounting leadership experience preferred.
• Experience with regulatory registration (SAM, D&B, State Business Licensing, Fundraising Registration, and Lobbying Disclosures).
• Strong financial skills and ability to prepare, analyze and interpret financial reports.
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Experience with accounting systems, preferably Great Plains and/or Dynamics 365.
• High proficiency in understanding general business operations and working in a professional environment.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; able to prioritize work effectively and adjust to multiple demands.

Essential Functions:
Download and organize publisher metadata files for the GeoRef production system...
Coordinate, format, and load publisher metadata into GeoRef production system.
Create Document Control Forms for journal issues.
Coordinate selection of journal articles with editorial staff.
Track status of publisher metadata.
Run separate import reports for each publisher.
Check in journal issues into GeoRef Serials file.
Correspond with publishers regarding metadata content and deliveries.
Support the Librarian in maintenance of Library functions.
Other Duties:
Provide backup to Assistant to the Director in administrative tasks.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
works under supervision of the Librarian; multiple simultaneous deadlines; occasional shelving of books and filing, must be able to lift at least 10 pounds, stand on a stepstool to shelve materials; work environment is a typical office environment.
Required Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree, English or Library Studies preferred.
Working knowledge of Excel, ftp, Dropbox, Google Drive.
Familiarity with metadata or metadata standards.
Experience with Bibliographic Information and Research Preferred Education and
Experience:
Experience or interest in the Earth Sciences.
