Amnesty International is an international human rights NGO that works to protect and promote human rights around the world. It was founded in 1961 and has become one of the most influential human rights organizations in the world. Job Summary

The Development Operations Assistant will provide administrative support to enhance the back-end functions of a growing and dynamic fundraising program. This position involves a mix of database work and office service support. This position will serve as a back-up for our Member Services staff and at times may have direct contact with our donors, providing excellent customer service. This position will be a member of the Development Operations team and will be responsible for opening or sorting mail, donation processing, data hygiene, and recording results in the membership database. This role is a union position and covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Communication Workers of America (CWA), Local 1180.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Open and sort mail that arrives to the office, separate donations, scan and prepare for finance to deposit
• Distribute other office mail as appropriate
• Process and key donations. This includes cash, checks, EFT, stocks, gifts from 3rd party systems, and credit cards. Process Reversal/Adjustment gifts including declines, chargebacks, and refunds
• Create packages to send to lockbox, track contents and report on receipt/processing of donations. Review gifts received back from lockbox vendor and enter any gifts or comments
• Track contents of packages on each end to insure completeness and accuracy
• Monitor data hygiene queues in database and suggest enhancements to automate cleaning and organizing of records with common issues, manually updating accounts where necessary
• Processing daily external telemarketing files and weekly internal telemarketing files (both donations and result files)
• Serve as a back-up to Member Services. Answer phone and email requests from donors
• Trouble-shoot customer service questions, resolve and respond to issues in a timely manner
• Make changes to accounts in the database, send letters and notifications of account updates to donors
• Office service duties
• Provide administrative support to Direct Response unit
• This is a hybrid role, which requires 2-3 days in-person at the New York office

Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Ability to work independently and perform work accurately with strong attention to detail
• Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office - particularly Word and Excel
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, to handle pressure and multiple projects simultaneously, manage work under tight deadlines, and see tasks through to completion
• Good communication skills
• Uphold professional ethical standards of fundraising

Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or BA/BS, and at least 1 year of fundraising or administrative experience

The Senior Director, Direct Response is responsible for the strategic direction of a multi-million-dollar direct marketing program which raises over $17 million annually. The Direct Response Senior Director oversees administrative processes, consultant relationships and implementation of mail strategies and testing plans. The Senior Director also oversees the member services unit, acknowledgement processes, in-bound call center and workplace giving program. The Senior Director manages Direct Response, Mid-Level Giving and Member Services staff.

Responsibilities
• Develops, manages & reforecasts annual direct response budget. Responsible for income of over $17million annually and expense budget of $7M
• Develop multi-channel long-term fundraising strategies & vision for to increase AIUSA’s funding via direct mail. Meet and exceed KPI’s and annual budget goals
• Develops and manages systems for tracking and analyzing data, and regularly shares reports and insights based on data
• Lead, manage and mentor staff responsible for direct response, mid-level giving & member services to meet and exceed budget, including 3+ direct reports
• Oversee data-driven strategies including robust testing plans for engaging AIUSA’s offline constituency in fundraising campaigns; oversees implementation of those strategies and plans, tracks and reports progress, and identifies recommendations for future efforts
• Manages consultants managing highly complex, large-scale mass mailing program. Ensures data driven approach to testing and planning and constant monitoring of results to drive highest lifetime value of the donor while meeting net budget needs
• Develop and manages long-term and annual plans for mid-level concierge program, including developing strategies with major gifts to increase donor upgrades
• Manages workplace giving application processes, vendor relationships and administration
• Oversees compliance and financial reporting for the Development Department including all state registrations and join cost allocations. Works in partnership with legal and finance teams to ensure we’re in compliance with all relevant laws
• Oversees applications with charitable regulators such as BBB and Charity Navigator
• Oversees a strategic acknowledgement and cultivation program that increases donor retention through timely processing of thank you letters, creation of newsletters and informational call-in and virtual sessions. Identifies new and effective ways to cultivate donors and manages relationship with vendor responsible for acknowledging donors
• Coordinates with directors of major giving, monthly giving, data operations and online advocacy and fundraising on donor pipeline, stewardship, gift crediting and cross departmental projects
• Manages membership verification processes for governance including board applications, annual general meetings and regional conferences
• Supports event production including membership calls, the annual general meeting and other ad hoc member events
• Creates processes, procedures, forms and/or rules necessary for work completion, efficient workflow and/or service delivery
• Identifies and develops new programs and services to meet evolving needs
• Serves on senior leadership team for the Development Department
• This role is hybrid, but requires going into the New York City office one day a week

Amnesty International USA is seeking applicants to serve a three-year term beginning in the Fall of 2023 on the AIUSA Board of Directors. An intensive, nationwide search is being conducted to assemble a qualified, diverse, and representative slate of candidates for the Board of Directors. Individuals who are willing and able to dedicate considerable time and energy to upholding the AIUSA mandate and growing the human rights movement are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should have insight into domestic and international human rights trends and issues, with particular interest in those relevant to AIUSA, and have knowledge of the mission and vision of AIUSA. We are also seeking candidates with an understanding of legal and ethical expectations for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, previous involvement in leadership roles (including organizational management roles, board or committee membership, and community leadership) and experience with strategy, governance, and finance.
