The Judd Foundation Archives, as the repository for the Donald Judd Papers, is the premier center for the study of the life and work of Donald Judd, containing the primary holdings of the artist, his studio, and key collaborators. The Archives maintains collections containing published and unpublished writings, correspondence, photographs, moving image material, drawings, museum, gallery and exhibition files, exhibition ephemera, publications, and substantial digital holdings.

Position

Judd Foundation seeks an Archivist to lead and manage the Foundation’s Archives as a professional repository dedicated to the life and work of the artist Donald Judd. Located in the Marfa, Texas offices of the Foundation the position reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The Archivist will be responsible for all aspects of the Archives, including description, preservation, and access to the Foundation’s archival holdings; records management; collection development; and research. Additionally, the Archivist will manage the Foundation’s Special Collections of photography, audio and video material and drawings and must have proficiency in cataloging and metadata standards associated with these materials. The Archivist will manage and execute these activities in accordance with current national archival standards and practices and will implement policies and procedures in support of the collections.

The Archivist will be able to lead the Archives Department and work collaboratively with Foundation colleagues in the Collections and Operations Departments to maintain the unique holdings of Judd Foundation. The Archivist will support the programs, research, and communications functions of the Foundation.

Responsibility and Duties

The Archivist will:
• Manage archival material in all formats, including selection, arrangement, description, preservation, access, research, and outreach.
• Identify priorities for preservation and access to the diverse set of holdings.
• Manage projects related to the Special Collections of the Judd Foundation Archives including drawing and photography cataloging projects.
• Implement and maintain a Foundation-wide record retention policy.
• Oversee internal and external research queries.
• Manage acquisitions.
• Supervise Archives staff and interns.
• Engage in the expansion of the Archives' resources through a variety of digital initiatives, such as social media, website content enhancement, research guides, and digitization projects.
• Support the work of the Foundation in planning new storage and research facilities.
• Participate in archives and research planning and committee work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent accredited degree, with formal training in archival theory and practice.

The Library of Virginia, the state library and archives of the commonwealth, is seeking a qualified archivist to work in the State Records Branch of the Government Records Services Division. The division consists of three departments: the State Records and Local Records archival programs, and Records Management Services. The selected candidate will work both independently and as part of team that advances the proper disposition, care, management, and public access to the archival records of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Library’s state government archival collections date from the early colonial period to modern government, including most notably the records of every Virginia governor from Patrick Henry to Ralph Northam.

This position will be part of a team responsible for applying the highest professional standards and archival best practices to identify, analyze, arrange, and describe the permanent records of Virginia state government to ensure their long-term preservation and facilitate their use by the public. Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Government Records Services, the incumbent will work with both early and modern collections, focusing on the backlog of paper-based state archival records, digital collections of state archival records, and the vast quantities of electronic archival records accessioned since 2005.

Responsibilities include:
• Identifying the content, arrangement, research potential, extent, and date range of paper and electronic state records collections and conducting necessary research to identify persons, places, events, and agencies documented in the records;
• Creating EAD, MARC and other finding-aids that facilitates public understanding and access to the records;
• Performing routine evaluation and conservation (repair/mending) of paper archival collections;
• Working with colleagues to evaluate best processing practices/options and assist in developing and implementing; archival processing procedures for electronic records;
• Building archival collections of state government Web sites using Archive-It ( https://archive-it.org/ ); and
• Contributing to agency outreach efforts, including speaking to stakeholder groups and at professional conferences and meetings, as well as providing content for the Library’s social media outlets and blog, the UncommonWealth ( https://uncommonwealth.virginiamemory.com/ ).

Shipping & Receiving staff, and collection donors to arrange the delivery of collections and accessions the materials, creating new cataloging records, assigning stack locations for materials, inspecting incoming materials for potential major conservation problems (mold, insect damage), and tracking accessions via acquisition forms, stack directory and collection management database. The incumbent also works with curators and archivists to identify and prepare materials for being transferred offsite to ReCAP, Columbia's shared offsite storage facility, and liaises with ReCAP coordinator to schedule and arrange the transfers and troubleshoot problems as they arise. The Collection Management Archivist's responsibilities also include hiring and training RBML student employees and assigning and supervising collection management student projects.

Other responsibilities include monitoring and ordering preservation supplies, monitoring stack conditions, assisting with space planning and moving, and liaising with CUL Facilities to maintain cleanliness and order in the stacks, and an accurate stack directory.

The incumbent also performs accessioning-as-processing on additions and small collections, including maintenance/updates of bibliographic records and finding aids, as well as to triage, rehouse and inventory new and legacy collections as needed.

The position is also expected to supports and participate in the RBML public service rotation by serving as a backup or on the desk as necessary
