Overview/Purpose:
Condé Nast is currently seeking a Communications Manager to lead communications for iconic brands including WIRED, Pitchfork and Ars Technica. The Communications Manager will build strategic communications programs to help amplify the journalism, content and leadership across the brands in new ways, proactively building new opportunities to expand reach and influence. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Communications.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Work closely with editors to drive communications that will amplify editorial direction and priorities
• Pitch and write press releases to promote brand, content and editors
• Secure and coordinate press appearances for writers, editors, and journalists
• Conduct research, craft talking points and compile prep materials for editor, writer, or executive press appearances as needed
• Lead press outreach for events, including drafting tip sheets, recaps and photo approvals, in addition to onsite press management
• Track, organize and record all press and notable social media for all multi-platform content produced by the brands, including print, digital, video and audio as well as any additional special projects and events
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
• 5+ years relevant experience
• Expertise in writing press releases, prep documents ahead of editor interviews, and pitches
• Deep understanding of the news and media landscape; ability to identify appropriate media outlets, and speaking engagements to promote content and editorial staff in a timely manner
• Strong communication skills–written and verbal
• Works independently with limited supervision
• Critical thinker with close attention to detail, capable of distilling key ideas and concepts to pitch editorial and trade stories, and events
• Interested in the worlds of tech, politics, pop culture, music, media and business; up to speed on current events and the daily news cycle
• Deadline oriented, extremely organized and capable of juggling shifting deadlines under pressure and as part of a team
• Collaborative, curious, and engaged; comfortable interacting with staff at all levels across the titles as well as external partners
• Well versed across social media platforms
• Maintains a strong network of media contacts
Base Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000

The Space Reporter will report to the Senior Space Editor and produce daily content including informed news and analysis, as well as features and the kind of in-depth explanatory articles that Ars Technica is known for.
We are looking for a strong writer who can not only understand the changing world of spaceflight today, but identify what is really happening beneath the press releases and hype, and write fairly and boldly about these trends. A successful applicant should be able to write clean and compelling prose accessible to readers from a wide variety of technical backgrounds-and who can serve all of those readers well with analysis. This is a union position.
The Space Reporter will have subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Private space launch companies
• NASA
• Government space policy
• Human spaceflight
• Robotic/autonomous spaceflight
