Job Description

Arizona PBS, a public media station located on Arizona State University’s Downtown Phoenix campus, seeks a dynamic, creative web content editor to help grow the station’s website and associated platforms. The web content editor is responsible for the day-to-day updating and creation of content for Arizona PBS’ website, azpbs.org. Working with the digital team, student workers, freelance writers, and others across the organization, they will create and update pages that highlight station initiatives, local productions, on-air programming and more. This position also utilizes web analytics, search engine optimization and accessibility guidelines to keep the site in line with established standards and best practice methods. Ideal candidates will be comfortable in basic HTML and will have experience with WordPress or similar platforms. Strong writing and proofreading skills are essential.

Essential Duties

This position creates and updates content on Arizona PBS’ website, azpbs.org. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner with strong professional writing skills and keen attention to detail.

Duties may include:
• Setting strategies for Arizona PBS’s website around what content is featured
• Creating and maintaining a content calendar for website content
• Creating and updating WordPress posts and pages, to include writing website copy
• Managing freelance bloggers
• Working with images and graphics: choosing, resizing
• Search engine optimization
• Tracking web analytics and recommending strategy shifts
• Uploading local productions to the web to coordinate with broadcasts or other strategies
• Helping to mentor the digital team’s student workers, who assist in these and other duties

A successful candidate will be able to:
• Effectively and regularly communicate with colleagues, managers, and other stakeholders across departments.
• Work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
• Proactive problem-solver who values collaboration
• Stay current on trends in website design and content to keep the site engaging and user-friendly
• Collaborate with web developers to add features, resolve issues and stay abreast of new technologies

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years prior related experience OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications
• Knowledge of search engine optimization and website analytics
• Experience with Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Suite programs
• Detail-oriented with strong editing and proofreading skills
• Evidence in having professional writing skills – please be prepared to provide writing samples
• Evidence in being comfortable with AP Style
• Evidence in being comfortable working with HTML
• Experience in participating in team discussions to improve processes and/or procedures.
• Experience in working with with key content providers for review and acceptance; adjusts content to meet specifications.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential function.
