Department Overview

The special care nursery in Coon Rapids is a 16-bed, 12-room unit and is part of the Mother Baby Center at Mercy with Children’s Minnesota. The special care nursery team cares for babies who are 32 weeks and older and require a higher level of care than the newborn nursery provides, as well as full-term babies who may be sick, have an anomaly or are transitioning from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to home. We care for these babies and their families and provide education to help them learn how to care for their baby at home. Our team of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, neonatologists and nurse practitioners work together to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the patients, families and staff.
