Iovance Biotherapeutics is seeking a Training Specialist for the Training Group to join the Operations team for the new Iovance manufacturing site at 300 Rouse Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA. Iovance is an immune- oncology company focused on the development and commercialization of novel cancer immunotherapies based on tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL). The companies lead candidate is an... autologous, ready-to-infuse cell therapy, that has demonstrated distinctive efficacy in the treatment of metastatic melanoma. The company has Phase 2 clinical trials in progress for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, cervical carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and immunotherapy for solid tumors. The company currently is developing its commercial manufacturing capacity to support development and launch of these assets.
As this person will be a trainer for the autologous cell therapy manufacturing program, a background in cell culture, aseptic gowning and qualification, and ISO class 5 cleanroom operations is required.
Specific Responsibilities
• Assist in the development and/or review developed training materials.
• Support management with the alignment of manufacturing processes with technical training and ensure consistent alignment between the processes.
• Identify trends and update training as necessary
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of current cell therapy manufacturing process, as this role is viewed as a subject matter expert within specific area.
• Deliver training sessions and ensure training documentation is maintained. Ensure training schedules meet company production and quality targets.
• Assists with identification of training needs, establishing a feedback loop to ensure continuous improvement, and using key performance indicators to measure training effectiveness.
• Continuously seek and support new approaches, practices and processes to improve the efficiency and efficacy of training.
• Provides operational support functions including materials stocking, kit preparation, reagent preparation, cleaning activities, and equipment maintenance.
• Required to support cleanroom operations on a frequent basis.
• Supports technical transfer and additional research level testing activities.

• Attends the daily lab meeting and escalates issues/concerns at that forum to Area Management for further investigation.
• May work on assignments that are moderately complex in nature, where judgment is required to resolve operational issues without negatively impacting manufacturing efforts.
• Troubleshoot unexpected results, prioritize workload and solve moderately complex problems.
• Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required. Works on routine assignments per written procedures, where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
• Ensure raw data records are accurate, complete, and in appropriate order, and meet protocol specifications and/or GMP requirements. Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements. Review data as generated/collected by less experienced technical staff.
• Contribute to department operations improvement in areas such as SOP revisions and department inspections.

Qualifications
• Minimum bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in biopharmaceutical based GMP manufacturing operations, including experience in cell culture and associated downstream processing. Cell therapy experience preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
• Demonstrated strong technical knowledge of aseptic processing in cleanroom environments is a must.
• Strong knowledge of and experience in in-lab skills training, including aseptic technique and cell culture processing.
• Experience leading “development” initiatives, i.e., training, coaching, learning initiatives.
• Ability to mentor and provide best practices to other members of the team.
• Ability to build relationships quickly and credibly. Provide consistent, excellent support to staff, with the ability to influence large teams within the manufacturing environment (potentially 50+ employees) representing a variety of personalities and experience levels.
• Ability to accurately and reproducibly perform arithmetic calculations including fractions, decimals and percentages and basic algebraic and geometric calculations.

Operational
• Provide oversight of internal operations, including Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Governance, IT and Facilities Management
○ HR priorities include development and implementation of effective recruiting, hiring, compensation, benefits, training, and professional development policies; sustaining an internal culture that promotes initiative, appropriate risk taking, learning, cooperation, equity, and mutual respect
○ Financial priorities include budgeting, reporting, audits, and compliance, especially around government grants and accounting related to restricted funds
○ Facilities priorities include developing a long-term space plan for the organization and implementing health and safety protocols in response to COVID-19
○ IT priorities include evaluating LAI’s third party helpdesk vendor; the ability to support remote work arrangements; and the cybersecurity measures
• Provide high-level input to inform decisions the organization makes around both legal and financial risks, such as contracts and insurance policies
• Provide high-level input to inform staffing decisions related to growth, performance, and accountability
• Evaluation: Assist in improving and monitoring the organization’s performance reporting systems (including program and fundraising data); ensure successful adoption of Salesforce database; Contribute to the ongoing development of the database in tracking prospective funders as well as program outputs and outcomes
Programmatic:
• Support two senior leaders in overseeing LAI’s program and development work
• Lead staff in long-term program planning, establishing outcomes and clear project plans
• Work with the senior leadership team to develop and evaluate program strategies and goals
• Work with external partners to harness resources for LAI including but not limited to opportunities for employment, enrichment opportunities and enhanced educational opportunities
Fundraising and External Relations
• Contribute to grant writing and reporting processes
• Represent LAI as appropriate with stakeholders, partners, and funders
• Engage in building donor relationships and lead fund development efforts
Supervision and Staff Management
• Provide coaching and training to push staff members to reach long-term professional goals
• Run Leadership team meetings

Experience and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years of managing and leading teams experience.
• Extensive senior management experience in a dynamic, responsive environment
• Proven track record of strategic financial management, business strategy, strategic planning
• Experience creating and managing budgets
• Ability to manage complex projects and departments
• Highly skilled at staff management, coaching, and development
• Experience managing cross-functional teams to develop and implement systems and processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency
