The ideal candidate is an organized, prolific, tech-savvy administrator, a solid communicator, a problem solver, excellent time manager, with at least a passing knowledge of the main events in America’s first 90 years (1775-1865). The ideal candidate will also be comfortable with learning new classroom technologies and has an eye for detail. Experience in developing and facilitating K-12 programs is a plus. Candidates must have a strong work ethic, thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, have a bachelor's degree (preferably in education or history), and have one to two years of experience working in a professional environment, preferably one associated with history or education. Some travel, mostly to battlefield-centric locations or conferences, is desired.

The American Battlefield Trust offers an array of benefits to the successful candidate and the salary is commensurate with experience. The Education Assistant works out of the Trust's Washington, D.C. headquarters and reports to an energetic duo of passionate educator/historians.

The Education Assistant is expected to:
• Manage the administrative and communications functions and assist with our K-12 programs.
• Serve as the department’s payment facilitator.
• Track department activities, revenues, expenses, and engagement.
• Correcting and creating web pages as needed.
• Assist with departmental reporting for board and staff meetings.
• Support education department events with travel, guests, and other needs.
• Take over tasks from other department staff to free them up for project work and ideation.

Skills/Abilities:
• A commitment to the mission of the American Battlefield Trust--a genuine interest in history and preservation is a plus.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented individuals with solid written and verbal skills plus superior organizational capabilities.
• Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Zoom.
• The ability to work independently and with coworkers on collaborative projects.
• The ability to organize and prioritize work from multiple managers and to ask for help when needed.
• The ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines.
• The inherent habit of asking for more work if time allows.

Education, Experience, and Other Eligibility Requirements:
• A bachelor’s degree in History, Historic Preservation, or Education from an accredited college or university.
• One to two years of experience performing administrative and organizational tasks in a workplace environment.
• K-12 administration or classroom experience is a plus.

Travel Required:
• The only required travel is for the annual National Teacher Institute every July, but other opportunities are possible at education events, Trust board meetings, and otherwise.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to walk around the office and hotel event spaces, walk up to ½ mile at a time on battlefields, and lift up to 35 pounds at a time

• Managing the departmental calendar, including scheduling meetings and drafting agendas
• Writing and compiling internal and external communications regarding land preservation efforts, such as presentations or newsletters

The Assistant will be expected to manage additional tasks, as required for real estate transactions, fundraising, events, and partner outreach. The Assistant may also provide support to the Grants Managers, as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• B.A./B.S. degree is required
