POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides spiritual guidance and support to in-house patients. Provides pastoral ministry and performs or arranges for religious services to meet the needs of patients and their families. Provides assistance to contracted staff and visiting clergy.

The Research Assistant will assist in the efforts of multiple ongoing studies, in addition to pending grants and awards. Typical duties include but are not limited to consenting patients, managing clinical information databases, generating IRB submissions, and bench research.

The Research Assistant will perform research activities using approved techniques. Conducts patient recruitment, administers questionnaires, abstracts medical records, maintains patient databases, performs administrative tasks, assists in grant preparation, performs literature searches and participates with the research team in preparation of data and other reports. May also assist the principal investigator with interpreting experimental results, and in preparing and writing manuscripts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Consents and enrolls participants and patients into research studies
• Develops and maintains knowledge of research protocol to coordinate the comprehensive and compliant execution of assigned protocols.

• Works with social workers, case managers, and leadership to identify appropriate patients to participate in transitional care programs and is responsible for performance targets
• Conducts difficult conversations with families on discharge planning options and addresses issues of choice
• Partners with patients and families and the Patient Finance Service team to collaboratively complete Medicaid applications, etc.
• Act as an ambassador of Boston Medical Center with transitional program sites, key hospital personnel, government partners, and community resources.
• Participates in meetings/initiatives including appropriate quality improvement and education activities, or if unable to attend non-mandatory activities, accepts responsibility to review meeting minutes and becomes knowledgeable of issues discussed.
