POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Manager is Book Trust’s leader on the ground in a growing portfolio. They will ensure our program is implemented with consistency and fidelity across school sites. In addition, you will monitor data to identify trends and improve program success. This position also has an emphasis on cultivating relationships to actively provide differentiated support and resources to teachers. Your days will be varied and fast-paced, working both independently as well as in partnership with the Book Trust team and local organizations. Candidates are expected to attend in-person events and schools when applicable, while also being comfortable working with a remote team across the country.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support and contribute to the work of Book Trust’s Program team.
• Build relationships to provide differentiated support to Book Trust Managers and Teachers with high quality program implementation.
• Support Book Trust’s annual application, enrollment, onboarding and recruitment of schools.
• Work in collaboration with the Development team related to evaluation and program data.
• Create research-based early literacy resources for teachers and families.
• Work with a variety of partners, both internal and external.
• Facilitate virtual and in-person Book Trust events such as school visits, book celebrations, and Book Trust manager and teacher gatherings.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively among the Program team to innovate and execute projects.
• Provide consistent communication to Book Trust managers, schools, and principals.
• Track and analyze relevant data points to consistently drive program success.
• Demonstrate ability to effectively organize and manage projects.
• Coordinate with Finance team to create annual book budget and student enrollment projections.

Position Summary

The Director of Development is a position on the Development Team and is responsible for managing all aspects of development strategies for Book Trust. As part of the management team, the Director of Development participates in executing the development strategy and budget including collaborating on the comprehensive funding direction of the organization. The Director develops and maintains relationships in the community (locally and nationally) on behalf of Book Trust. Fundraising responsibilities include grant development, writing and reporting, leadership in messaging for annual financial appeals/campaigns, and partnering with the VP of Development and Communications to fully execute donor and board cultivation strategies, including events. In addition, this position also collaborates with the Communications team to connect with donors for both events and other fundraising activities.

This position is a frontline fundraising and community engagement position. The Director will manage a portfolio of donors and funders and implement new strategic directives for personalized, high-touch donor/family engagement, while promoting and elevating giving in communities where Book Trust serves. They will work closely with the President & CEO, VP of Development and Communications, as well as volunteers, including Book Trust Regional Advisory Board members.

Responsibilities

Development Strategy
• Increase organization’s resource development capacity, resulting in a broadening of the organization’s base of support, diversification of revenue streams and an increase in targeted revenue streams.
• Create cultivation and solicitation plans targeted to meet fundraising goals and help move donors towards higher giving levels; develop associated fundraising strategies to support portfolio prospect moves management
• Produce progress reports with overall fundraising, priorities, and activity metrics.
• Meet activity metrics and revenue goals through face-to-face solicitations, prepared written solicitation letters, strategic donor briefings/visits, formal proposals/correspondences, pledge documents and other engagement methodologies as appropriate.
• Support the production of all fund development related publications and collateral, including (but not limited to) campaigns to support Book Trust fundraising goals and activities.
• Work with the VP and staff to create and implement communication and promotional plans for campaigns and appeals, including (but not limited to) annual campaigns.

Portfolio Management
• Manage portfolio of approximately 60 prospects and donors.
• Implement all fundraising plans for major giving, annual giving, planned and legacy giving, special events and projects, along with other solicitations for support/contributed income.
• Oversee coordination of funding cycles and process management. This includes but is not limited to overseeing grant cycles, proposal review, follow up discernment, providing funding recommendations, and coordination of approval and declinations.
• Maintain strong communication ties with all donors.
• Work with Finance and Program staff as necessary to ensure that all reporting requirements are met.
• Support and manage all event fundraising activities on behalf of the organization, including management of the Regional Advisory Boards to ensure events are in alignment with organizational priorities and fundraising activities for events.
• A specific area of focus is major gift fundraising in partnership with the VP of Development and
• Communications and President and CEO, including but not limited to coordinating leadership donor visits with executive and senior staff, personally visiting leadership donors, developing written and verbal solicitation strategies, proposals and presentation materials for prospects and arranging/overseeing periodic cultivation/recognition events for major donors.

Prospect Research and Outreach
• Provide expertise to advance the interests of Book Trust by researching and identifying sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals based on corporate and foundation guidelines and interests.
• Mange the integration of prospect research data in donor gift strategies
• Assist the VP of Development and Communication in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of leadership and corporate/foundation gifts and pledges; and plans and coordinates any annual giving programs associated with matching gifts.
• Communicate progress of leadership giving activities to the VP of Development and Communications following an agreed schedule and produce reports as requested.

Team Management and Leadership
• Supervise and lead the development team. Monitor and report on team’s progress to ensure all financial goals are achieved.
• Maintain a broad and deep knowledge of current best practices, rules, policies, guidelines, and procedures related to fund development activities, and ensure that development office conduct, activities, systems, and procedures are consistent with Book Trust mission and values.
• Oversee fund development office systems and procedures to support all development projects and operations – including but not limited to supervision of donor and gift record keeping, coordination of prospect research activities, oversight of database management and all records, files, and gift processing, as well as oversight of pledge reminders and acknowledgement processes.
• Contribute to building and sustaining a positive departmental culture that supports a commitment to team goals and core values, and that fosters the development of individual leadership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Assist VP of Development and Communications in providing on-going supervision and training to development staff and volunteers.

Position Summary

The Development Manager position is primarily responsible for overseeing project management, research, and support to the development team in order to increase fundraising efficiency while cultivating various tiers of donors. The Development Manager works to foster lasting relationships, promoting positive attitudes toward giving among current and prospective donors. The position will work closely with the Director of Development.

Responsibilities

Fundraising
• Responsible for raising annual operating support and project specific annual and major gifts, by ensuring the achievement of program giving goals, smooth operations, and exceptional relationships with community constituents.
• Manage a portfolio of approximately 40 prospects and donors.
• Work with the Director of Development and additional development staff to create and manage
• electronic giving and communication campaigns. Ensure completion of projects by deadline and within
• budget.
• Provide input regarding development of e-philanthropy messages and methods.
• Uncover new donors through prospect research methods such as data screening and analysis of external
• wealth information sources. Work with development staff to identify key donor prospects and to execute program annual giving plans and major responsibilities.

Donor Engagement
• Manage in-person and virtual volunteer engagement opportunities.
• Support Director of Development in stewardship of Regional Advisory Board members.
• Support Book Trust event activities and other duties as assigned.

Fundraising Operations
• Manage, maintain, and oversee donor information. Document best practices and enforce protocol for data entry to ensure accuracy of donor data.
• Support migration and implementation of CRM in Salesforce; own, educate, and train staff on database use.
• Generate database reports and track and analyze gifts for development staff, National Board of Directors, and Regional Advisory Boards. Communicate progress of program annual giving campaigns, activities, and revenue to the necessary staff following an agreed upon schedule and produces reports on the status of activities as required.
• Manage donor acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship program, including thank you letters and reporting.
• Ensure that all giving activities comply with established policies, procedures, and tax laws.
• Work with Director of Development to segment email lists for electronic appeals, e-newsletters, and email blasts for events, and other communications activities as necessary.

Requirements And Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in non-profit fundraising is preferred
• Demonstrable success at working with program staff and the development team towards establishing
• and achieving identified fundraising goals.
• Must demonstrate the capacity to evaluate and make informed and independent decisions regarding
• strategic approaches to each funder and for each funding need.
• Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors, interacting
• via virtual or in-person with institutional representatives.
• Proficiency with software programs including DonorPerfect, Microsoft Office Suite, Constant
• Contact/Mail Chimp. Salesforce experience a plus.
