Mare Island Brewing Co. in Vallejo, CA is searching for an experienced Brewer to add to our ranks. Our Coal Shed Brewery is located on the waterfront on the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Commissioned in 2017, we transformed this historic Navy coal shed into an 8,000 sq. ft brewery, taproom and event space to compliment our Vallejo Ferry Terminal Taproom and Benica First Street Taphouse... locations. We brew on a 15bbl Prospero brewhouse and Mare Island Brewing Co. in Vallejo, CA is searching for an experienced Brewer to add to our ranks.

Our Coal Shed Brewery is located on the waterfront on the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Commissioned in 2017, we transformed this historic Navy coal shed into an 8,000 sq. ft brewery, taproom and event space to compliment our Vallejo Ferry Terminal Taproom and Benica First Street Taphouse... locations.

We brew on a 15bbl Prospero brewhouse and 1bbl Blichmann pilot system. We can with a CODI 6-head counter-pressure filling canning line with depalletizer and in-line labeler. We have an awesome, tight-knit and dedicated production team. Our third retail taproom location opened in June 2021, and we are self-distributed throughout the Bay with over 250 current and active accounts. We experienced rapid expansion in 2021 and 2022 by adding 6 additional 30bbl fermenters and one 30bbl brite tank. We are in the market to add two 60bbl fermenters with a 60bbl brite in Q1 of 2023 as well as a grain silo by end of Q2. So needless to say we have plenty of brewing fun to be done, the only piece we are missing at this point is you.

The Brewer position at Mare Island Brewing Co. has plenty of room for growth and will report directly to the Assistant Brewer.

Responsibilities:
• Wort Production on both our 15bbl brewhouse and 1bbl pilot system
• Cellar operations; tank CIP, fermentation checks, dry hopping, yeast harvesting, keg washing
• Fining and transferring beer with a keen eye towards low DO pickup

• Monitor and submit distribution progress reports as assigned by Market Manager
• Identify and develop retail and pricing programs for underperforming packages

Pricing Responsibilities

Budget Responsibilities
• Responsibly manage annual co-op budgets with Distributors in compliance with all Mahou USA policies and procedures.
• Responsibly manage annual travel and expense budget in compliance with Mahou USA Travel and Expense Policy Guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide excellent table service to guests including inputting orders in the POS, running food and drinks, opening and closing checks, clearing plates and glassware.
• Immediately greet all guests with enthusiasm and friendliness.
• Provide excellent customer service to all guests, maximizing the customer experience.
• Apply all guidelines for responsible alcohol service.
• Educate all guests about the beer and food available on the current menu.
• Maintain full knowledge of ingredients and other pertinent information about beer and food being served.
• Complete daily sidework
• Smile and engage with guests
• Constantly work to increase knowledge, including attending trainings and meetings put on by management.
• Maintain the highest level of customer service and professionalism with guests, management, and co-workers.
• Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and assist as needed with ensuring all shifts are appropriately staffed.
• Follow checklists and standard operating procedures.
• Learn to operate POS system.

Qualifications:
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must provide a COVID-19 vaccination record
• Prior work experience with bar/restaurant, brewery, winery, and/or service experience a plus.
• Possess or be able to obtain a food handler's card and training on alcohol service.
• Possess working knowledge of beer and craft beer industry.
• Possess strong knowledge and enforcement of ABC laws.
• Possess an awareness of local, state, and federal health and sanitation laws.
• Able to lift heavy objects (25 -- 50 lbs.)
• Able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for up to 8 hours per shift.
• Able to work in crowded and confined spaces.
• Able to maintain excellent customer service and a professional appearance suitable for guest interaction while working under pressure.
