JOB SUMMARY

The Physician Assistant of Primary Care is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider who actively renders direct patient care and possesses delegated prescriptive authority. The Physician Assistant is credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent billing provider recognized by Medicare and Medicaid within the healthcare systems, and in accordance with the appropriate board. The Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care based upon the scope of practice as delineated by the supervising physician.

These providers typically provide care to patients in an internal medicine, family medicine, geriatric or pediatric clinic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

The Physician Assistant of Primary Care assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive physical examinations and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs. The Physician Assistant counsels patients and families regarding medical processes, management of the illness, condition, medication, nutrition, health promotion, drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over the counter medications and herbal remedies. In addition, the Physician Assistant performs invasive procedures specific to the scope of practice as delegated by the supervising Physician.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities to include symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties, interactions, and preventive health-care measures and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions. The ideal candidate must have strong verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, problem solving, computer and related software application skills and have the ability to counsel patients, interpret laboratory diagnostic tests and develop and implement comprehensive outcome-based patient treatment plans. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Temple, TX, is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Pediatric Dermatologist to join our Department of Dermatology.

BSW Temple is an academic referral center in central Texas which trains medical students and residents. As of July 2022, there will be 11 residents and 13 faculty, including one Pediatric Dermatologist. A Dermatopathology Fellowship is offered through the Pathology department. We are currently affiliated with Texas A&M College of Medicine and will transition to Baylor College of Medicine with the establishment of a new Temple BCM campus starting in 2023.

Primary responsibilities are patient care and teaching. Patient care will occur in Pediatric Dermatology outpatient clinics within the Dermatology free-standing clinic and shared call coverage for inpatient consultations at McLane Children’s Hospital. The hospital features 112 patient beds and a 24-hour, level II pediatric emergency department. A level IV, forty-eight bed Neonatal ICU is located nearby on the main BSW Memorial Hospital campus. Opportunities to perform basic dermatologic surgery and laser surgery are available.

The position will involve a significant educational component via bedside, formal and informal teaching of learners including Dermatology residents, rotating Pediatric residents, and medical students. Clinical or educational scholarship is encouraged.

Requirements

Board certification in Dermatology and Board certification/eligibility in Pediatric Dermatology by the time of appointment.

The ability to diagnose and manage complex pediatric dermatology outpatients and inpatients including those with inflammatory, vascular, infectious, pigmentary, genetic, congenital, and acquired diseases is mandatory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Assists the project sponsor/champion with project initiation and approval including development of the project charter outlining the scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, timing, and budget requirements.

Coordinates with SCM Contracting on RFI, RFQ, and RFP processes and life cycle management. Identifies all impacted stakeholders, departments, and/or facilities. Obtains approvals from the appropriate Clinical and Non-Clinical governing bodies.

Advises and mentors SCM Project Managers on SCM PMO Best Practices on the development of the initial project(plan) schedule, project kick-off, project team structure, communication, and monitoring the project performance. Participates in the development and maintenance of SCM PMO templates and tools. Utilizes project management methodologies, systems, and tools as defined by the SCM PMO.

Supports SCM Portfolio Management and Training responsibilities as needed.

Responsible for the development of project plans including project schedules, scope management, risk management, communication, testing, training, and implementation plans. Ensures organizational readiness for project deliverables through adequate planning. Effectively manages project scope by ensuring any changes to scope are documented and approved. Provides a project schedule to identify when each task will be performed by resource or department.

Solicits, monitors, and communicates project performance, status, and results to SCM Leadership, project sponsors/champions, and stakeholders and addresses or escalates issues as appropriate. Reports project status, issues, obstacles, and risks on a recurring basis via e-mail and/or status meetings. Maintains project status, health, stage, and dates within the SCM Portfolio Management Tool.
