The Refinery Planner plays a key role in the commercial optimization of the Toledo Refinery by interfacing daily with the refinery's optimization and asset operations groups and the integrated supply organization to develop and implement the efficient oil plan.
This job description is intended to provide an overview of the position and does not include all the tasks that might be required to provide support for your area job requirements.
Responsibilities:
• Lead in the development and communication of LP-based refinery campaign plan to ensure maximum gross margin delivery
• Understands refinery and supply constraints, determines economic incentives to overcome constraints, and works with Optimization team to develop solutions
• Provides input to supply team on monthly product nominations
• Participates in the campaign plan vs actual meeting to identify gaps in the planning or optimization process, and in the out-month planning process to provide refinery context to the planning assumptions
• Coordinate with the crude and product supply coordinators to evaluate and prioritize trading opportunities
• Work closely with the Optimization team, Crude and Product Schedulers daily to identify and close gaps on campaign operational targets
• Ensures that intermediate inventory strategies, product economics, and refinery and supply constraints are understood and clearly communicated to the refinery and business
• Provides input into volume nominations of natural gas and hydrogen with third-party suppliers
• Evaluates the cost of refinery equipment limitations and shutdowns and works with Optimization, operations, maintenance and business partners to minimize lost opportunity
• Understands key factors that impact refinery asset operations including process technology, process safety and maintenance/TAR
• Predict the impact of environmental changes on profitability of units and the refinery margin
• Evaluate relative break-even value for different feed stocks and products given known refinery constraints and market conditions
• Adds to refinery margin by identifying current opportunities that can make valuable contributions above the operating plan
• Improves refinery income against safe operating limits by optimizing the feed and product slate, feed rates, operating units throughputs, cut points and other operating unit variables
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field required
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering preferred
• Minimum 5 years of refinery experience required
• One or more years as a LP user in a refinery or supply commercial role required
• Understanding of refining economics, experience running LP software and analyzing output reports considered an asset
• Experience with analyzing data and ability to use the outcome of the analysis to positively influence business decisions
