Insider is hiring a fellow to join our sports team, with a focus on celebrity culture in sports. This fellowship is set to begin in June 2023.
We're looking for an ambitious team player with a passion for sports, particularly where they intersect with pop culture and celebrity. You will conduct research, pitch ideas, report and write several stories each week...
These stories will include biographical visual features, reported pieces, and quick news stories on trending topics. Through this work, the sports reporting fellow will learn invaluable skills that all journalists need to produce high-quality work read by millions of readers, with a behind-the-scenes look at how a major digital publisher operates.
As the Insider Life sports reporting fellow, you'll join an in-house team of editors and journalists telling compelling stories about the lives of sports' biggest stars off the field of play. We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is detail-oriented, and works well independently.
All of our editorial fellows should have:
• A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
• Familiarity with digital and social media
• The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
• Proofreading and copyediting skills
• A love of Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that's accurate, fair, fast, and fun.
Additionally, for our sports fellow, we're looking for someone who has:
• A passion for celebrity athletes, the phenoms that transcend the sports world to become household names, from LeBron James and Tom Brady to Serena Williams and Cristiano Ronaldo.
• A self-starter attitude, stellar communication, and exceptional writing skills.
• Experience working in a newsroom or writing for a publication is a plus, but not required.
• Knowledge of CMS, SEO, and Photoshop is also great, but not required.
Salary & Benefits:
The Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week/6 months, starting in June, although start date is flexible.
• Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
• PTO and paid holidays
• Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment
