The Digital Editor will also coordinate with the engagement and growth teams to strategize and execute on user- and community goals, e.g. search engine optimization, UX/UI updates, CMS management, etc..
This is a union position. Chicago Reader editorial staff are members of the NewsGuild/Communication Workers of America Local 34071.
Requirements: Editorial/Marketing
• Work with reporters and editors to build dynamic packages, big and small; post stories and coordinate design, article review, timing, etc.
• Lead the management of the website: Ensure web content is accurately edited and posted; ensure the archives are up to date; perform key design-development duties to improve the UX/UI of the site and all the content.
• Work closely with Director of Technology and other team leads to revamp digital strategy and make upgrades
• Work within the newsroom, but also work closely and collaboratively with all RICJ teams
• Create first suggested social post for article promos
• Upload Reader issue, in PDF form to the website
• Report issue stats to senior vice-president and G&S
• Organize, optimize and create monthly roundups, archive dives, and seasonal content for search engine optimization (SEO play)
• Provide SEO/Analytics
• Coordinate with marketing and growth teams on goals and KPIs for website growth
• Generate monthly analytics report for website traffic
• Create monthly reports: quantity of stories, category, and stats associated.
• Report up to directors and editor in chief during growth team meeting/editorial meeting
• Back up for digital advertising management (Google Ad Manager, LiveIntent)
• Project management of website and digital projects
• Plan, research, write copy and edit content for the website
• Other digital backup duties and responsibilities, as requested
Requirements and Skills
• 1-3 years of editorial experience that shows a track record of accurate, interesting digital story creation and publishing
• High levels of fluency with Wordpress
• Coding comfort and talent is a huge plus (HTML, CSS, Python/Rub/R, etc.)
• SEO & SMO

This is a remote work position, but living in the Chicago area and attendance at in-person meetings is required. Salary is $45,000 – $50,000, based on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as paid time off.
