Our flagship advanced manufacturing program at Carnegie Mellon
University (CMU), the Manufacturing Futures Institute (MFI),
combines cyber information technologies, manufacturing technologies
and social sciences to create a highly collaborative advanced
manufacturing research ecosystem that drives the digital
transformation of manufacturing, accelerates the translation of
associated research discoveries toward commercialization, and
advances the methodologies and technologies to enhance the
workforce.

MFI at CMU is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the
growth of its advanced manufacturing research and education
programs at our new 58,000 sq. ft. advanced manufacturing facility,
Mill 19 at Hazelwood Green. The partnership of CMU and the Advanced
Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Institute at Mill19 enables the
combined team to engage in efforts that span from basic and applied
research to development projects that de-risk technology solutions
for direct transition to industry.

The successful candidate will work with MFI staff in a dynamic
environment to support the needs of the organization and the
advanced manufacturing research projects at Mill 19. The role will
interface with MFI partners within Mill 19 (the ARM Institute and
Catalyst Connection) plus industry and government partners.

This position with MFI is an outstanding opportunity for someone

Responsibilities will include:
• Administrative assistance such as coordinating meeting
logistics and resources, maintaining calendars, drafting
correspondence, reports, and other documents for supervisor’s
signature and/or approval, greeting and directing visitors,
checking office supply levels, handling office equipment and
supplies, making room reservations and meeting support, arranging
departmental social events, responding directly to correspondence
and inquiries, assisting with purchasing/accounting
functions.
• Liaison or contact person with other university departments and
with outside organizations. Assists in the research, preparation
and processing of information.
• Assist with the workflow within the department. May oversee
support staff or student workers through distribution of work and
review of work progress. Assists in the training of newly hired
staff and students and provides feedback on performance. Recognizes
the opportunity for process improvement and participates in the
implementation.
• Maintain calendars to ensure time-critical issues such as
annual performance reviews, performance management activities,
group meetings, project reviews, etc. are identified and adhered
to.
• Provide general office management by setting up and maintaining
complex file systems, and supporting staff and budget related
processes and work.
• Attend various meetings within the department. May serve on
inter-departmental committees.
• Perform related work and special projects as assigned.

Work will take place at Mill 19 (Hazelwood Green). You should be

The course explores crucial rhetorical issues that impact your ability to communicate and achieve your objectives as a business leader.

Business Presentations: In this course, students prepare, present, discuss, and critique different oral presentations currently practiced in business. Topics include developing verbal and physical presence; planning presentations based on audience needs and expectations; projecting personal credibility and professionalism. Assignments and cases will vary from term to term and may include talks such as pitches, team-driven strategic plans, rallying speeches, mock interviews, and other presentations that prepare students to succeed as oral communicators in the business world.

Each class meets in person twice a week for 80 minutes and involves weekly grading.
