The equity-focused podcast reviewer will use their subject-matter expertise to consume, evaluate, and write about entertainment content for parents through a child-development and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens. With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, this contract role will produce anywhere from one to 10 new podcast reviews per month. Work may also include updates to previously published reviews. We are committed to hiring reviewers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

DURATION: Six months, with the potential to extend
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Consume podcasts, evaluate them according to our proprietary rubric, detailed guidelines, and best practices, and write original reviews in a consumer/parent-friendly tone.
• Accurately source information about podcast titles, including hosts/production companies, run time/length, and release dates; also, locate and process materials like press contacts, image files, etc.
• Upload text, images, and other data into our proprietary content management system.
• Apply Common Sense style guide, including detailed guidance on inclusive writing, to all written materials.
• Evaluate reviews through a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to identify and correct problematic language and decenter the White voice.
• Occasionally communicate with publicists.
WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RSUM:
• Demonstrated expertise in and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in media criticism and writing.
• Discernment for audio quality, effective audio storytelling, and relatability of content to a diverse audience.
• Expertise in radio, podcasts, or any other audio-centered media.
• Understanding of streaming audio content and the different streaming platforms.
• Background in journalism, child development, media criticism, or a related field.
• Experience as a conversational writer, ideally for a parent audience (with clips to show for it).
• Technical know-how, with experience using online content management systems and cloud-based software.
• Demonstrated ability to execute projects working in a self-directed way with priorities/deadlines that may shift quickly.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Strategy Development:
• Participate in philanthropic funding strategy discussions.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop program briefs, including program goals, impact metrics, and activities.
• Keep abreast of education and parent engagement trends, and bring competitive challenges and new opportunities to the attention of internal stakeholders.
• Research and identify key sources and trends in foundation, corporate, and philanthropic support.
Foundation Partnerships:
• Develop and manage a grant portfolio of funder relationships, with a focus on securing grants to support our research program and youth mental health and well-being initiative.
Responsibilities Include:
• Outlining strategic objectives and talking points for meetings.
• Conducting phone calls/meetings to present programs and explore potential fit.
• Writing concept papers and grant proposals, developing budgets, and shepherding the process from start to finish.
• Preparing Google slide presentations and other collateral materials.
• Working with program teams to track progress against grant deliverables (outputs, outcomes, budget).
• Coordinating periodic updates and communications to funders.
Research, Pipeline Development, and Moves Management:
• Develop a robust pipeline of new potential funders.
• Track potential funders through our moves management system on Salesforce.
• Produce in-depth, well-written backgrounders on prospective donors, and update backgrounders on existing portfolios annually or as needed.
WHAT YOU BRING:
• A bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in a nonprofit setting, ideally one with a focus on youth inclusion, mental health, or social and emotional learning.
• Previous experience in grant writing/fundraising, strategy, and program development.
• Proactive capacity for stewarding funders to build strong and lasting relationships.
• Superior writing and communication skills. Ability to identify alignment between foundation strategic priorities and Common Sense funding needs to structure compelling proposals and stories of impact.
