- Do you have a passion for writing...

- And are you interested in psychology and what drives people?

If yes, we are looking for you.

Hi there,

My name’s Kathryn and I work at Course Concierge, the online course publishing house.

Since 2016 we’ve been helping NYT best-selling authors, TED speakers, and social media authorities create world-class online courses.

We’re now in the process of creating a first course with a world-renowned climber with a large audience. This initial project is just the start! We're looking to launch an entire climbing platform with some of the world's best-known climbers and coaches. As part of this exciting project, we're looking for a new copywriter!

If you’re someone who loves climbing and writing, this is a Dream Opportunity.

We’d ideally like to find someone who has been climbing for a while, knows their way around climbing terms (think: Grigris, trad, rope drag, and sending) and has a feel for the crowd.

If you already have experience with sales copywriting, that’d be fantastic. However, copy experience is in no way a must-have. If you love writing and are eager to learn how to compel action and grow the sport, we want to talk! In the case you’re new to copywriting we will have an experienced mentor who will guide you (and we’ll pay you while you learn).

This job is for you if you:

- Love climbing and go to the climbing/bouldering gym or even climb outside on a regular basis

- Have a passion for writing – whether you’re an experienced copywriter, write articles, fiction, have your own Substack or obsessively journal

- Are excited by psychology and what drives people to take action

- Are happy to be mentored and guided by an experienced copywriter

- Are comfortable receiving feedback and lots of edits on your writing (in copywriting 80% ends up on the cutting floor)

The core part of your job will be to craft persuasive advertising copy that will get people excited about our courses and help them decide if it’s the right fit for them. This means you will be tasked with communicating what makes each of our courses unique.

In doing so, you’ll first need to:

1) Deeply understand the course content

2) Learn about the instructor and their story

3) Study the audience for each course (e.g. are you speaking to a newbie who is yet to send their first V2, or are you speaking to a climbing veteran who is projecting their next 5.13d).

Once you have a good grasp of all three, it’ll be your job to craft compelling advertising copy to tell the story of each course in a captivating way that gets people excited. This means: crafting a long-form course sign up page, writing copy for paid advertising campaigns, outlining email launch sequences, and drafting the occasional social media post.

Your writing could encourage thousands of people to start climbing and thousands of fellow climbers to decide to take their skills to the next level.

Responsibilities of the role include:

- Learning copywriting or honing your existing skills (this means going through a few select copywriting resources as well as being mentored by an experienced copywriter)

- Reviewing customer research and course content, interviewing course instructors as well as customers as part of your research before starting to write

- Writing marketing copy for our climbing courses – which includes: long-form course sign up pages, email series, and ad copy that will be seen by millions

- Incorporating feedback and suggestions from fellow team members into your writing (writing copy is a rather collaborative process and different team members often can add unique additions)

- Reviewing customer feedback after an initial course launch and further refining the copy you’ve written for the next opening

For the right person, this is an exciting opportunity to:

- Be part of a small but incredibly talented team

- Hone you writing, and become an expert at driving action

- Help create a world-class platform for climbers

- Turn your passion for climbing into a well-paying career while helping thousands of fellow climbers

You can be based anywhere in the world to apply, but you’ll need to be available to communicate with other team members on Eastern Standard time (US), so being in/nearby that time zone will be an advantage.

To apply…

The position will start with a two week paid trial to assess on the job fit. Pay will be a weekly retainer set at a competitive rate depending on your level of copywriting experience (if you're brand-new you will still be paid throughout your training.) All being well, in time there will be the opportunity to become a full-time employee. Aside from pre-scheduled meetings, you can work when you want (with dedicated timelines for each course launch.)

To apply, write back (climbing@courseconcierge.com) with a short letter noting your climbing and writing experience and why you think you’d be a good fit. Do not send a CV of any kind – we’re not interested in where you went to school, just that you can do the job. We'll focus all of our attention on the quality of your cover note.

We won’t be able to get back to everyone, but for those who stand out, we will be in touch to discuss next steps. (If you haven’t heard back within two weeks of writing, please assume on this occasion you haven’t been selected for an interview.)

Thank you for considering the position and reading until this point. If you’re on the fence about applying: please do. Best of luck, and we look forward to hearing from you,

Kathryn
