We are working with a small privately held manufacturer headquartered in St. Louis to find their next Controller. The Controller will report to the CFO, manage a small accounting staff, and provide financial support and leadership to key department leaders within the Company. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA license (preferred), public accounting audit... experience servicing manufacturing clients and/or in-house accounting experience at a small privately held manufacturing company, cost accounting knowledge, and managerial experience. We are targeting candidates who are detail oriented, respectful, self-motivated/self-starting, curious, not afraid to ask questions, hands-on, and team oriented.
RESPONSIBILITES
• Maintain a pristine and timely general ledger
• Oversee and drive the month-end close process
• Prepare (with analyses/commentary) financial statements for corporate and all 4 business units on a stand-alone basis monthly and on a consolidated basis quarterly. This includes P&L, balance sheet, and statement of cashflows.
• Oversee accounting staff and ensure quality work deliverables related to their areas of responsibility, including AP, AR, payroll, Fixed Assets, inventory, etc.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Financial Planning and Analysis duties: prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present and expected operations.
• Work with site Controllers, as needed
• Other tasks as directed when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; MAcc and/or CPA license preferred
• 5+ years of progressive, relevant accounting experience
• First-hand experience working with small privately held manufacturing companies highly preferred. This can be as an auditor at a public accounting firm servicing clients, a corporate accounting professional working in-house, or a combination of both (ideally).
• Cost accounting knowledge and experience preferred
• Strong analytical skills
• Hands-on, team player
