Class Characteristics

This is a seasonal part-time, temporary, at will, non-benefited position limited to no more than 995 hours per fiscal year. • Administrative tasks such as filing, organizing reports, printing, data entry, and mailings.

• Developing and implementing public information and marketing campaigns.
• Assist in the design of graphic information pieces such as brochures, posters, and advertisements.
• Edit and publish program collateral and other communications materials.
• Monitor, develop, and update content for social media and the City’s website.
• Write engaging and informative text for advertising and instructional pieces that meet the City’s standards for writing, style, and grammar.
• Organize, restock, and track inventory of tools and outreach materials.

Knowledge of:

Education and Experience

Licenses and Certificates
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.

Essential Duties

Qualifications

Knowledge of:
• Strong understanding of the fundamentals of Blacksmithing
• Choosing metals and applying appropriate techniques depending on the chosen material
• Operating equipment and using hand tools to cut and refine products
• Forging and heating metals for shaping
• Utilizing a forge, anvil and small hand tools like hammers, tongs, chisels and snips to create a product that students can replicate or for public demonstrations
• Customer service best practices
• Safety practices in the workplace

Ability to:
• Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment
• Must be responsible, alert, courteous, and punctual
• Must be able to communicate with peers, supervisors, and patrons
• Must be available to work weekends and evenings
• Must be able to provide own transportation to and from work

Education and Experience
• Must have at least 1 year of blacksmithing class instruction experience.
• Must be a minimum of 18 years old
