Position Summary

The Managing Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Abercrombie & Kent USA & Canada DMC. Responsibilities include the management of the staff, overseeing the financial health of the company, ensuring operational excellence and driving revenue through sales and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities

Work with EVP to create strategy, objectives and best practices to lead DMC staff in the understanding and achievement of key goals and initiatives. .

Manage all company resources with respect to budget and remain vigilant of external factors that may impact operations, taking preventive measures when deemed necessary.

Develop budget and monitor the financial performance of the USA DMC, focusing on balancing sales growth, forecasts, margins and expenses, and delivering advice and a strategic view on how to achieve the best results for shareholders and employees.

Report to the EVP and Group Finance the monthly, quarterly and annual financial results.

Drive revenue by overseeing and engaging in marketing and sales efforts.

Take an active role in overseeing each department, providing support for department managers, and enabling them to reach the goals set out by management.

Work with EVP and other global leaders to ensure products, policies and best practices are consistent with One A&K approach and standards.

Recruit, hire and manage the DMC staff.

Oversee the operational excellence of the organization, monitoring key metrics of guest satisfaction.

Oversee the development of new product lines such as cruise experiences, special interest groups and lodges.

Review and compare existing suppliers with new potential suppliers to ensure products and services are contracted with appropriate, competitive terms and conditions while maintaining key supplier relationships.

Encourage innovation and creativity by supporting new ideas, programs, products, and circuits to enrich the company’s offer in a relevant manner, focusing on market needs and trends.

Oversee the DMC’s technology, seeking new ways to make improvements and create efficiencies.

Lead sales efforts through client sales calls and attendance at key conferences.

Manage emergencies in guest travels.

Communicate with Abercrombie & Kent’s Tour Operating Companies on DMC’s innovative products and operational challenges.

Oversee the training of the DMC’s staff.

Oversee the training of key clients including internal A&K organizations as well as key third party clients.

Collaborate with the other divisions of the corporation in London, Illinois, and Australia.

Skills

Proficiency in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel software. Excellent presentation skills. The ability to manage a diverse and complex business with multiple teams and product lines. Excellent financial literacy including budgeting, forecasting, margin and profit analysis.

Experience

Minimum 10 years professional experience in the U.S. and Canada travel market. Bachelor’s Degree.
