What you'll do
As a Director of Engineering for the DocuSign AI Applied science team, you are responsible for leading the core team of applied scientists working on the foundational ML models of our next gen agreement analytics products, services and developer platform. The Intelligent DAP (DocuSign Agreement Platform), is built on a foundation that includes a set of critical building blocks such as a specialized agreement repository.
The team will leverage state of the art machine learning techniques for both natural language processing and computer vision to improve how agreements are drafted, summarized, signed, managed, and queried. The ideal candidate should have experience with all aspects of building, tuning, and evaluating machine learning models, including deep learning architectures (e.g. convolutional and transformer architectures). Your team will be responsible for delivering solutions for generative modeling, summarization, named entity recognition, information extraction, semantic search, question answering, and recommendations. You'll be expected to leverage pretrained models, which can then be adapted to a new domain and fine-tuned for specific tasks. Data augmentation can be helpful. Distillation and quantization may be required. Experience with multilingual modeling, active learning, and/or contextual bandit methods is a plus.
You will prototype machine learning models that deliver more personalized and automated customer experiences throughout the DocuSign Agreement Platform. You will bring your technical chops and team building chops together to lead a world class team to successfully take on this unique responsibility. You will exemplify a flexible attitude combined with an aptitude to learn and share. You will embrace and enhance our culture and be a role model.
This position is a people manager role reporting toSenior Director, Engineering - DocuSign AI and is designated Flex.
Responsibility
• Hire, grow and lead a world class applied science team
• Lean in to leadership to deliver success against our goals
• Be responsible for building our high scale models, Deep Neural net strategy for search relevance, query processing and clause classification
• Champion strong fundamentals (reliability, resiliency, data privacy, security, compliance) for these platform services assets
• Be responsible for several V1 (new) initiatives to enhance and unlock new and innovative use cases for our customers
• Build learning organizations that mentor your team
• Deliver products that delight customers while managing the health of the code base through continuous refactoring and management of technical debt
• Provide coaching and leadership in applied science for best practices, modeling and evaluation techniques, responsible AI, model interpretability and machine teaching
What you bring
Basic
• 12+ years' of combined machine learning & management experience across multiple ML frameworks like Pytorch, TensorFlow, etc
• 5+ years hands on Deep neural network, computer vision, natural language processing
• 5+ years managing applied science organizations over 10 people or equivalent experience
Preferred
• Demonstrated track record leading geographically dispersed teams
• 8+ years of experience in designing, developing, deploying and monitoring machine learning and deep learning solutions
• Experience programming in Python and machine learning frameworks, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, hugging face, etc
• Strong programming skills in one or more of the following languages - Python, C#, Java, C/C++
This position is not eligible for employment in the following states: Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.
This role is eligible for bonus, equity and benefits .
Based on legislation in Washington state the following details are for individuals who reside and would be working in Washington only: Washington pay range: $165,600 - $251,875 base salary.
Based on legislation in California the following details are for individuals who reside and would be working in California only: California pay range $178,300 - $292,175 base salary.
