Job Description

“What would you say you do here?”
• Analyzes the script and crafts storyboards based on interpretation of the pages or prompts.
• Collaborates with the Director(s), Producer, and Head of Story to realize storyboards that reflect the tone of the film.
• Develop characters through the storyboard process.
• Incorporate notes and feedback as needed for sequences.
• Pitches boards to show leadership and editorial as requested.
• Works quickly to iterate new ideas or refine boards.
• Demonstrates strong and efficient drawing abilities that convey acting, staging and action.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of acting, anatomy, perspective, staging and composition.
• Ability to come up with inventive ideas to plus story material.
• Strong sense of entertainment and humor.
• Understanding of editorial.
• Ability to present the storyboard in an effective manner.
• Knowledge or willingness to learn applicable software for creation and asset management.
• Strong time management skills.

The Character Effects department and CFX Artists at DreamWorks Animation are responsible for both the set up and shot simulation of cloth, fur, hair, foliage, feathers, props, and other simulations as necessary on various projects.

• Designs and crafts character effects such as cloth and fur simulations.
• Develops generalized tools, used in Character FX, to help improve the pipeline.
• Creates cloth and hair simulations, prop animation and animation cleanup for shot work in production.
• Creatively solve problems and achieve art direction for a shot.
• Troubleshoot and solve problems independently.
• Demonstrate artistic vision and appropriately expand upon the art direction given.

Job Description

• Create memorable acting choices - able to define the characters and offer fresh and original ideas. Develop the emotional content of each scene through strong acting skills.
• Work closely with directing animator and supervising animator to keep characters on model. Set a high quality standard of animation for other animators to follow.
• Ability to take on a range of animation styles
• Able to establish/ create outstanding mechanics
• Consistently finds appealing poses - elevates the quality of any characters’ design or shot
• Test character setups and develop new animation tools.
• Ability to solve technical issues independently and/ or knowledge of when to elevate them
• Strong understanding of the CG animation pipeline
• Strong communication skills - able to anticipate any delays to schedule and communicate those issues as soon as possible.
• Open and responsive to feedback or changes
• Teamwork: Mentoring new animators, sharing suggestions and helpful tips and tricks, seeking out opportunities and efficiencies that drive the department forward.

• BA or equivalent gained from a combination of skills and knowledge from education, work experience, and/or training
• 2+ years of professional CG experience
• Character Performance experience.
