Leveraging guidance from the AVP of HR Partnership, Strategy, and Operations (“AVP”) and HR Partner team, the successful candidate will provide HR support to a specific portfolio of business units (client groups) across the organization. The role acts as a strategic HR consultant and coach to dedicated groups and advises subject matter experts within HR regarding programs and policies. The position must be able to consult and advise all levels of staff across a broad multitude of subjects, including but not limited to employee relations, performance management, talent and organizational development, compensation, diversity, equity and inclusion (“DEI”) and employee engagement to recommend solutions and guidance that embody Earthjustice’s core values and strategic objectives. The successful candidate will need to collaborate closely with the HR Partner team to understand context, history, policies, and relationships corresponding to each client group in order to effectively deploy solutions and counsel.

The position will be based in our New York office and will be required to work in-office at least once per week.

This position is a full-time role and the staff member will be expected to work standard business hours eastern time Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities

Employee Support – (Full employee lifecycle) (65%)
• Build relationships with staff at all levels and be a trusted advisor in the areas of professional development, recruitment, performance management, benefits, compensation, and other HR functions. Elevate employee needs to appropriate HR team member for solutions as needed.
• Implement effective employee relations strategies, guidelines, and procedures.
• Conduct and lead investigations related to employee claims and advise leaders, with support from the AVP of HR Partnerships and HR Partners as needed.
• Collaborate closely with the Compensation team to manage the promotion process, ensuring equitable outcomes that adhere to both Earthjustice values as well as internal guidelines and policies.
• Support performance improvement processes, leveraging performance improvement plans and collaboration with leadership to drive optimal outcomes.
• Partner with AVP of HR Partnerships, HR Partners, VP Human Resources, and General Counsel in addressing complex employee relations and performance management concerns/issues.
• Regularly coach managers as they navigate complex interpersonal and team challenges.
• In collaboration with the Compensation team, conduct job description/position assessments and partner with Recruitment to support the hiring process in order to help client groups quickly meet capacity needs.
• Partner with the Compensation team to provide input on compensation strategy and address compensation topics for staff as they arise.
• Champion use of appropriate communication channels for employees to raise issues/concerns.
• Identify internal or external resources to support staff with conflicts, mediations, or other interpersonal needs. Partner closely with the Community, Justice & Impact (our DEI) team regularly to deploy effective guidance and solutions for staff.
• Report trends to HR team/AVP of HR Partnerships/HR Partners regarding employment or management practices that may not align with organizational values or may hinder employees from reaching their full potential.
• Work with AVP of HR Partnerships and HR Partners to create insights from data to inform process and program improvements and share findings with key partners to develop and deliver a plan that links to HR strategy.
• Communicate with employees regarding various concerns, providing prompt guidance and recommendations for timely resolution of issues.
• Promptly address concerns related to applicable Equal Employment Opportunity laws including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and other similar federal and state laws.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Demonstrate our Earthjustice values of Justice, Partnership, Inclusion and Excellence.
• Work with the AVP of HR Partnerships and HR Partners to manage the annual employee engagement survey, summarize results, and develop recommended action plan.
• Initiate new hire and exit interviews and present high-level themes to management for continuous improvement.
• Provide new hires with overview of HR functional areas, resources and support as part of onboarding process.
• Support staff offboarding to ensure seamless transitions (managing exit interviews, checking in with departing staff to cover offboarding information, partnering with managers to strategize around backfills of vacant positions)
Change Management (20%)
• In partnership with HR and other departmental teams, implement change management plans that maximize employees’ understanding and adoption of new programs and ways of operating.
• Encourage and support employee adoption of new HR technology, programs, and initiatives.
• Develop communication plans and employee engagement plans to support successful roll out of projects/initiatives.
Team and Culture Building (10%)
• Partner with teams and staff across the organization to ensure staff members understand and can utilize the HR tools and resources available to them.
• Communicate training and professional development opportunities to staff.
• Share knowledge on utilization and satisfaction of various programs with the Talent Management team.
• Create a learning culture, by encouraging debriefing after completion of significant stages of projects.
Professional Development (5%)
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; and maintaining personal networks.
• Participate in trainings, webinars, affinity groups, and conversations to continuously deepen understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Travel — Occasional travel may be required to regional offices to hold office hours for HR related needs and/or to facilitate trainings.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of related experience.
• 5+ years of experience in Human Resources; extensive experience in providing HR consultancy and managing highly complex employee relations cases is required.
• Experience working in a workplace that prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion progress strongly preferred.
• Experience managing the offboarding process (both voluntary and involuntary separations).
• Experience navigating performance improvement plans (PIPs) and coaching managers through performance challenges is a must.
• Knowledge of employment law (multi-state), compliance, employee relations required, and experience collaborating with the General Counsel’s office.
• Extensive experience in navigating complex employee relations cases as well as experience with appropriate HR documentation.
• Sound judgment and discretion; able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
• Highly collaborative style and willingness and demonstrated ability to work in teams.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and develop strong working relationships in a way that builds and maintains trust.
• Demonstrate an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations.
• High level of emotional intelligence including self-motivation, self-awareness, empathy, ability to give and receive feedback, and outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Contribute to the creation of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences.
• Experience working in an organization with multiple offices—and across various time zones.
• Ability to multi-task and be action oriented; exercise independent judgement and decision-making.
• HR Certification preferred (e.g. SHRM-CP, PHR)

Compensation:

Earthjustice seeks a Managing Attorney for its Community Partnerships Program (CPP). This program works together with frontline communities fighting for a safe, just, and healthy environment. The Program provides community-led movements with legal and advocacy resources to help challenge polluters and ensure access to environmental benefits. We also provide frontline communities with multifaceted support including litigation, legislative advocacy, policy analysis, and administrative challenges. We act collectively with our community partners to transform social and political structures that stand in the way of equal access to a healthy environment. Community Partnerships Program staff are based in Earthjustice’s offices in Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C., and remotely in Sacramento.

The Managing Attorney will provide support, guidance, mentorship, and strategic thought partnership for members of the team in connection with litigation, legislative and administrative advocacy, strategy development, communications, and partnership building. The MA will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the program, develop and maintain relationships with clients, partners, and funders, and serve as a primary public face of the Community Partnerships Program. The Managing Attorney will coordinate closely with the VP of Litigation for Healthy Communities on substantive strategy and management, engage with other offices and programs and with the communications and policy departments, and represent the Program on internal advisory bodies and in organizational strategic planning.

Responsibilities

Program (Essential Functions)
• Lead the Program in shaping its litigation and administrative and policy advocacy docket and related strategies, considering institutional priorities and strategic plan objectives, and participate directly in related litigation.
• Provide support, guidance, thought partnership, and mentorship to Program team members in connection with strategic legal and policy advocacy.
• Build and maintain effective, trust-based working relationships with community-based clients and partners, organizational partners, government agencies, and coalitions.
• Work collaboratively with the Policy and Legislation, Development, and Communications teams, and with Earthjustice’s regional and program offices, as necessary, to advance programmatic and institutional goals.

• Ensure that the Program team maintains a top-notch litigation and advocacy program that is consistent with the values, policies, and priorities of Earthjustice.
• Serve as an active member of the Managing Attorneys group to help provide institutional leadership and set broader institutional priorities and direction.

Qualifications
• Highly effective litigator with substantial experience in environmental or public interest law, and 10+ years of litigation experience.
• JD required.
• Admitted to the CA, NY or D.C. bar, or able to accomplish admittance within one year of employment.
• Excellent management skills with at least 5 years of experience managing litigation or legal advocacy teams in a diverse and inclusive environment.

Program (Essential Skills)

execution on stewardship strategies that recognize and retain

Earthjustice supporters and optimize current stewardship processes
and systems. The Specialist is responsible for producing general
and highly customized stewardship materials and plans for a range
of Earthjustice donors. They will oversee stewardship projects and
activities that involve development, communications, and litigation
staff, as well as senior leadership, board members, and key
volunteers. The Specialist will also serve as a resource to the
teams developing and implementing stewardship strategies for
mid-level, planned giving, foundations, digital, and public support
donors. The position requires excellent time management,
analytical skills, project coordination, diplomacy and discretion,
and donor relations skills. The Stewardship Specialist must be able
to manage multiple long-term projects simultaneously, meet
deadlines, and be highly organized. The Stewardship
Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Stewardship. This
role can be based in San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, Chicago, IL,
or remote from the U.S.

Responsibilities

Stewardship Projects
• In partnership with gift officers, develop stewardship and
recognition strategies for select donors, including custom reports,
videos, photo books, special invitations, and leadership
communications.
• Identify opportunities to leverage stewardship activities and
communications across different audiences.
• Coordinate with Associate Director and key stakeholders on
organization-wide stewardship efforts that span multiple donor
segments.
• Lead the end-of-year stewardship process, production of the
Supporter Recognition Booklet, and creation of customized
stewardship touchpoints by regularly partnering with fundraisers,

• Ensure details of stewardship activities and plans are
documented and communicated to all involved parties, and that plans
are entered into the database.

Foundations, Planned Giving, Mid-level giving, Digital Fundraising

practices, including expanding digital stewardship opportunities.
• Support efforts to streamline the donor acknowledgment process
across giving levels and support Associate Director in the creation

• Manage the development and distribution of Earthjustice-branded
donor swag and stewardship gifts.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with gift acceptance best practices.
• Self-starter, able to successfully coordinate multifaceted
projects, timelines, competing priorities, and duties both
independently and in collaboration with other people involved.
• Ability to manage priorities and workflow. Experience managing
multiple projects at once.
• Enthusiasm for communicating with donors, prospective donors,
board members, and other volunteers as needed.
• Experience with campaign stewardship preferred.
• Basic graphic design experience preferred.
• Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and
concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and
orientations.
• Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and
inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates
differences. 

Salary is dependent on experience and location.
Salary range in San Francisco, CA: $101,300 -
$112,500

Salary range in Seattle, WA or Chicago, IL: $96,200 -
$106,900

Remote salary for other locations in the U.S. varies:

The Climate Justice Program Assistant is a part-time, limited duration position that will support the delivery of this program and efforts to measure its impacts. The Climate Justice Program Assistant will:

- Help schedule and organize site visits to households that received cooling units in previous years.
- Administer on-site surveys and assessments to unit recipients.
- Perform data organization and quality control activities related to survey results.
- Track and QC installation reports submitted by program partners.
- Compile monthly reports on program activity.

Job Description:

The lab manager position is for a small working lab at a hazardous waste facility. Non-accredited and actively working with plant personnel to manage a wastewater treatment tank farm. Basic lab testing and running of a GC and an ICP, while overseeing 1-2 lab techs. Attention to detail, ability to lead a team, and a desire to learn about the environmental services industry.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
• Understand facility operations and be familiar with which regulations and permit conditions drive the analytical requirements of the facility, both in-house and third-party.
• Communicate and confirm each lab technician’s understanding of the laboratory’s role in facility operations and compliance with permit conditions and regulations.
• Perform QA/QC review on data generated by laboratory technicians for incoming waste verification samples, process/treatability samples, and samples representing outbound wastes.
• Perform QA/QC review on results entered into computer database by laboratory technicians.
• Oversee notification to Facility Management of off-specification drums and recommended resolution.
• Maintain the highest standards at all times, assuring accuracy of results.
• Review lab equipment maintenance logs including calibration schedules as applicable.
• Make suggestions on methods to improve laboratory flow and quality to the Facility Manager.
• Operate the lab safely and efficiently.
• Continually grow knowledge of laboratory information and expertise.
• Properly log and perform all checks, standards, and calibrations.
• Participate in mandatory pre-shift and post-shift safety and operational meetings detailing tasks to be completed on shift.
• Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Basic Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related Science.
• Two plus years of prior laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
• Experience with basic lab techniques and calculations.
• Knowledge of Gas Chromatography and/or ICP-OES.
• Knowledge of chemical compatibilities.
