What You'll Be Doing
• Participating in early-stage design studies for spacecraft concepts; types of studies can include both small, individual efforts as well as larger, multidisciplinary teams of subject matter experts.
• Utilize and maintain prototyping tools, hardware, and equipment in the RAPID Center to support active programs, while actively participating in steering group meetings to support future center development.
• Evaluating the feasibility of spacecraft and space architecture concepts during key milestone reviews such as Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, etc.
• Providing spacecraft-level systems engineering support during the execution of customer programs.
• Collaborating with government, program office, and contractor personnel as well as other members of Aerospace's engineering group.
Work Model
• Hybrid: This position will be a hybrid work model and offer partially remote with a minimum of 3 days per week of onsite work required in Aerospace's campuses in El Segundo, CA, Colorado Springs, CO, or Chantilly, VA.
What You Need to be Successful
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college/university program (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months).

What You'll Be Doing
• Participating in early-stage design studies for spacecraft concepts; types of studies can include both small, individual efforts as well as larger, multidisciplinary teams of subject matter experts.
• Utilize and maintain prototyping tools, hardware, and equipment in the RAPID Center to support active programs, while actively participating in steering group meetings to support future center development.
• Evaluating the feasibility of spacecraft and space architecture concepts during key milestone reviews such as Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, etc.

You will join a diverse design team building Electro-Optical systems including imagers, passive/active EO tracking, LIDAR, and directed energy systems. You will be responsible for performing trade studies, design, performance analysis, modeling, integration, and test in the support of the development and build of advanced electro-optical systems. The Deputy Chief Engineer will closely partner with the Program Chief Engineer to establish and manage a program vision, strategy, and goals to align the Program with the Customer and facilitate conflict resolution; ensure technical integrity and engineering execution across all IPTs, CPTs, and disciplines within the Program. Primary Tasks:
• Image/Signal processing and data analysis, primarily in MATLAB/Simulink
• Computer modeling and simulation of sensor physics, optics, phenomenology, and radiometry
• Development of Line-of-Sight stabilization, control systems, detection and tracking algorithms
• EO/IR system and algorithm performance analysis
• Technical presentations to both internal and external customers
• Establishes and maintains the program technical baseline, ensuring the product is optimized to meet the contractual requirements
• Establish and track both Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and allocated Technical Performance Measures (TPMs) across the lifecycle
• Ensure effective use of independent reviews and achieve on-time completion of all Program Engineering reviews
• Responsible for the Earned Value and/or financial management of the engineering content on a program.
• Ensures proper Engineering Risk and Opportunity management (ensures Engineering risks are captured, mitigation plans in place across IPTs)
• Provide cross-IPT technical leadership and coordination - Ensure Engineering leads assigned to program are engaged in all aspects of their program
• Lead and encourage effective transition to production and providing operations support
• Ensure operations engagement in engineering development, design and test requirements verification, including the transition of design to production
Required Skills:
• Minimum 10 years of related engineering experience including significant experience working on design, build or testing of EO systems or EO platforms; should possess a strong overall background with optical signal processing and EO systems. Airborne EO background is preferred. Requires prior leadership experience managing systems engineering tasks or multi-disciplined teams.
• Knowledge in image & signal processing theory and practice.
