With nationwide responsibility for improving the health and well-being of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and those of NIH’s research Institutes. The Cardiovascular Branch, Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking an outstanding physician/scientist to initiate and direct an independent research program in clinical cardiovascular imaging on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. The existing faculty is an outstanding group of internationally recognized biomedical researchers covering a range of basic and clinical research areas in cardiology (please see https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/about/divisions/division-intramural- research/cardiovascular-branch) and complemented by the other NHLBI research branches and centers (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/about/divisions/division-intramural-research) and resources within the Intramural Research Program (https://www.nih.gov/research-training/research-nih-labs-clinics).

NHLBI is recruiting a Clinical Tenure Track Investigator to build an innovative and translational research program with a clinical focus on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at the NIH campus and at our collaborating hospital, Medstar Washington Hospital Center. We seek clinical researchers to establish themselves as an independent investigator in patient-oriented research. Successful applicants will receive an appointment with competitive salary, dedicated laboratory space and budget with personnel support, travel and training funds, access to an extensive infrastructure including research nursing, data-management support, pharmacy development services, cell processing facility, advanced imaging, and advanced technologies such as

imaging/microscopy mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, genomics and genetically modified animal models.

The successful candidate should have a strong track record of achievement, expertise, experience and certification in the respective area of clinical/translational medicine. Applicants must be eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the United States (with institutional support, if needed) and be board eligible/board certified in Cardiology or equivalent. Salary is commensurate with research experience and accomplishments, equivalent to the assistant professor or associate professor level.

Responsibilities

A postdoctoral research position is available in https://ahamed.omrf.org/ to study the role of TGF-?1 in cardiac fibrosis and valvular diseases (Meyer et al. Blood 2012, 119:1064; Wang et al. 2014, 34:1924). We are seeking individuals with experience in microsurgical procedures and ultrasound imaging techniques for comprehensive evaluation of cardiac function in models of cardiovascular disease.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in a biological science, chemistry, physics or other relevant area, M.D., or equivalent.
