About the role:
The Writer, Family Handyman, Streaming TV is a dedicated writer for the Streaming TV team supporting the Executive Producer, Supervising Producer and Sr.
Director of Current Programming & Development in creation, and series writing of all Streaming TV series programming for our DIY brand, including originals and clip-based series.
This role will write episodes primarily for family Handyman but also Fail Army, People Are Awesome, The Pet Collective, Weather Spy, Taste Of Home and Readers Digest as well as pilots and sizzles according to specifications outlined by the team which will align with all brand standards.
Writer is expected to learn the brand’s voice, with quick turn around precision, and will be responsible for re-writes as directed by the Executive Producer, Supervising Producer and Sr.
Director, Current Programming & Development.
This position will report to the Executive Producer, Streaming TV and is based in our Los Angeles, CA office.
About you:
You are passionate about UGC content and half hour original television series.
You enjoy writing unscripted television from all POVs including VO narration, stage direction, and the incorporation of UGC content into the narrative.
You are able to write for a broad scope of genres including comedy, lifestyle, DIY, food, travel, and athletic/sports and weather and adventure.n Above all, you are excited by challenges, with a strong desire to learn and adapt with the company, and grow with our team.
This position will report to the Executive Producer, Streaming TV and Supervising Producer, Streaming TV and is based in Los Angeles, California.
Responsibilities
• Owning ½ hour episodic television writing from start to finish.
We will look to you to raise the bar creatively, delivering best-in-class scripts that engage our extensive audience across 25+ Streaming platforms
• Write half hour Streaming TV series including host copy, VO narration, pop-up graphics, managing tone and messaging consistently in each series
• Write pilots for series, and sizzles for both internal and external needs
• Staying up to date on influencers specifically in the DIY space, but other genres as well, and trends in all digital and traditional media, competitor content and television genres Requirements
• 5+ Years in traditional TV or streaming TV with a strong background in DIY / build / renovation shows
• Working knowledge of Television, Internet and Video trends, deliverables, and content
• Very organized and detail-oriented, previous work as a writer required in the DIY genre
• Expert level mastery of scripting software essential

Your Day-to-Day
Design and build show/channel identities and graphics packages, from show opens, transitions, backgrounds, to set and scenic design.

Reporting into the VP/Digital Studio, Executive Producer, Taste of Home & Family Handyman, will supervise the Digital Studio team’s efforts to create short and long-form digital content for TOH and FHM’s social channels and O&O site, and participate in the development and production of original series for streaming.
