The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. Title of Position:
Health Support Specialist determines eligibility, issues benefits and collects health data. Works as a team member to meet and exceed established guidelines for the program. Provides services in accordance with DHM 150-24.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
• Inputs accurate client data into the FL-WiSE system to determine program eligibility.
• Collects and assesses personal data and demographics on applicants/clients and household members at each visit.
• Assess Medicaid Eligibility Status in FMMIS database.
• Provides voter registration information to clients and assists with completing the voter registration form.
• Assesses immunization status at certification and recertification by accessing the Florida Shots database.
• Provides the How WIC Works pamphlet to all new clients or clients changing client type.
• Provides and explains the WIC Rights and Obligations handout.
• Sets up new EBT card and assists client with adding the pin number.
• Issues WIC benefits. Instruct participants on WIC benefits, use of benefits and program rights and obligations.
• Provides client with VOC card and shopping list at each issuance.
• Schedules/reschedules appropriate appointments for current and potential WIC clients.
• Provides customer satisfaction surveys as directed to assist in achieving 1% of clinic caseload.
• Collects anthropometric data by conducting height/stature and weight measurements.
• Sets up area with necessary equipment needed to perform hemoglobin measurements.
• Performs fingers sticks to assess hemoglobin levels of WIC participants.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the Hemocue machine by cleaning at least once daily.
• Verifies immunization records at certification and mid-certification.
• Provides immunization education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Effective verbal and written communications skills.
• Knowledge of how to interpret and apply local, state, and federal program policies and procedures.
• Ability to use computer, fax machine, copier, telephone.
• Computer skills: thorough knowledge, skills and ability to use Excel, Word, Outlook, FL-WiSE.
Qualifications:
Minimum
• 1 year of customer service experience working in a high volume, fast-paced clinic or office environment, servicing adults and children, face to face (e.g., client registration, answering telephones, data entry)
• Willing to learn how to perform height and weight measurements on infants, children and adults.
• Willing to learn how to perform hematological measurements (finger prick)
• Ability to lift and transfer 30lbs
• 1 year of experience in data entry
