Who we are
The Motley Fool’s mission is "To make the world smarter, happier, and richer." For 30 years that has meant providing impartial and informed investment recommendations with a healthy dose of personal finance guidance on the side. And as we seek to empower everyone with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to attain financial freedom, our coverage is continually expanding.
We launched The Ascent, a Motley Fool brand, in 2018 to rate and review critical financial products like credit cards, savings accounts, and loans, as well as to provide jargon-free advice on topics ranging from paying off debt to financing a home, from saving money to maximizing your credit card rewards. There’s a lot of money advice out there (some good, some less good), and we’re cutting through the noise that often leaves people feeling helpless and insecure about key financial decisions.
So now that you know who we are at The Ascent, let's talk about you.
Who we're looking for
The Ascent team is looking for an expert personal finance writer with a passion for helping people of all backgrounds change their financial lives for the better. This writer will bring a fresh perspective to the topics they cover and will never, ever tell us to stop buying our daily latte. They'll also be a news junkie who can interpret the latest developments in consumer finance and the industries we cover. If you love reading CFPB reports, House and Senate proposals, and credit card issuers' press releases, then you might be the writer we're looking for!
Responsibilities
• Write both timely and evergreen articles on a wide variety of personal finance topics.
• Pitch article ideas based on relevant news and whatever will grab readers' attention and serve their best financial interests.
• Accept writing assignments and deliver them on deadline.
• Update existing articles as needed.
• Use and continually learn about SEO best practices.
• Adapt to our ever-evolving needs, processes, formats, etc.
• Attend monthly meetings with in-house staff to discuss new initiatives and best practices.
• Prove that Bigfoot is real.
(We'll settle for 7 out of 8.)
Qualifications
• 5+ years' experience writing on personal finance, with previous publishing credits.
• Basic math skills. (Ex: You should be able to walk our readers through an example of how much money they might save by consolidating debt.)
• Knowledge of digital content and SEO best practices.
• The ability to write clear, fluid, and engaging prose.
• Adaptability and responsiveness to feedback.
In your application, please provide at least three writing samples.
A Few Things To Note
• In a turbulent industry, our track record of financial stability stands out.
• The Motley Fool's writers tend to stick with us for years. Many have been here a decade or more.
• Experience in journalism and/or writing for organic search is a major plus -- but not a requirement.
Compensation
We pay anywhere from $75 for short-form articles to $500 for more involved reviews, plus additional performance-based incentives Show more details...

What would you do in this role? As a Financial Advisor, you'll be part of a team of advisors responsible for providing financial counseling to our mass affluent clients. We're looking for a dynamic Fool that can be one part fiduciary advisor, one part sales machine, and one part client service. Our marketing engine is gathering leads at breakneck speed, so there's no need for cold calling or... traveling sales, but you'll be focused on (and measured by!) lead conversions. We're looking for a self-starter that can represent the Foolish brand proudly in the quest to turn prospects into clients, and clients into evangelists. There's a lot that makes us different from a traditional advisory practice - We operate as a team. We have thousands of clients that are served on a team service model and there's never a dull moment wearing multiple jester hats. Prospect meetings are virtual by default. When a prospect books a meeting, that takes place as a phone call with rare in-office visits as exceptions. You will be the first point of contact for prospective clients. Our investment strategies are focused on individual stock picking. While you needn't be a stock picker yourself, believing in the success of our actively managed stock strategies is a must for this role. Our portfolio management team picks the stocks that make up our asset class models, and you'll be helping to construct those models into a personalized portfolio for clients. There's room to grow. Fool Wealth has sister companies that include mutual funds, a hedge fund, a venture fund, and we're always looking at ways to expand our Foolish investing reach. But what does this role actually do? In this role you'll be balancing the needs of our aggressive growth goals with servicing our existing client base, including the following
Responsibilities:
Develop fluency in our core managed account program in order to get clients into the right solutions for their specific situation Deepen relationships with mass affluent clients through horn-tooting client service and sound financial guidance. Work with clients on rebalancing their investments annually, accounting for special circumstances that warrant non-traditional asset allocations. Maintain a sales rhythm that includes inbound appointments as well as outbound efforts to nurture leads along the sales pipeline. You'll be accountable for conversion on your client appointments and continually sharpening your sales process. Embrace metrics that drive business results - we'll be measuring conversion rates and retention rates as KPI's. Provide sound financial advice at all client levels, whether you are being asked about IRA contribution limits or limit orders Build strong relationships and partner on feedback with our internal teams, including client service, marketing, portfolio managers, traders, operations, and developers. What do you need to apply? 2
years of experience as a fiduciary financial advisor Show us you listen, anticipate, and overcome the objections and can move to resolution to drive both sales AND satisfaction Self-motivated with strong desire to achieve powerful results tied to the firm's aggressive growth goals Be adaptable with a Top It mentality. Things change and our organization as a whole moves fast - the successful Fools are charged by this energy. If you think there's a better way to do things, raise it up in conjunction with a thoughtful suggestion Must be able to prioritize independently and in alignment with the firm's business goals Excellent communicator at all levels - when talking to prospective clients, when sharing results and information with team, when sharing results and information with leadership
Salary Range:
$80K -- $150K
