About the role

We are looking for a Geologist to interpret and collect geological and geotechnical data by logging and sampling from diamond drill core and chips. The position includes the supervision, collection, interpretation and deliverance of technical data to all users The incumbent is responsible for the interpretation of down-hole surveying and borehole geophysical surveys including acoustic televiewer logging. This work is critical to mine operation, future expansion, and resource knowledge through the optimization of geologic and geotechnical information and models. The data collected serves as the baseline for both current and future mine expansions, open pit and underground development and is critical for the understanding and planning for the economic extraction of the resource. This role is a great opportunity to implement your technical and leadership skills while maintaining a high standard of safety during field and office work. This role will work closely with mapping and modeling geologists, geotechnical engineers, metallurgists and drill contractors. The incumbent will provide recommendations and aide in daily drilling operations and ensure communication is clear between the geology group and stakeholders.

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety.
• Greater than 2 years of geologic work experience in core logging, with additional experience in mapping and sampling, preferably in a porphyry copper mining application.
• Experience in geologic data collection including identification and description of rock types, structure, alteration, and mineralogy.
• Good knowledge of logging techniques is essential.
• Experience in open pit mining environment.
• Geologic interpretation – this role is responsible for collection and interpretation of geologic data.
• Compilation and communication of geologic information – this role provides the information for modeling geologists and geotechnical engineers on a daily basis; the role supports current open pit investigations as well as expansion studies.
• Role includes ability to synthesize multiple streams of data into a functional interpretation.
• Quality Assurance / Quality Control – These are critical matters in relation to collection of geological and geotechnical data. Chain of custody and documentation is key in demonstrating the validity of the data and interpretation.
• Excel, Acquire and MineSight, Leapfrog or Vulcan software experience.
• Demonstrated ability to implement and manage continuous improvement processes and participative working style in problem solving, project implementation, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work in multi-functional and multi-disciplinary teams and deliver measurable outcomes.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience
• Minimum 1 year of relevant field experience as geologist. Experience with environmental geology and investigations preferred.

Education and Training
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in geology or hydrogeology from accredited institution.
• Should have Geologist in Training (GIT) certification from at least one US State that participates in National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) licensure, or be qualified to take GIT examination within first year of employment.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Candidate’s responsibility will be to submit and maintain all paperwork associated with sample submittals as well as file all completed geology blast maps.
• Assist geologists with field work such as digging drill cones, staking, and performing spotter duties for high wall mapping.
• Data entry into spreadsheets for drill samples and assay data.
• Collecting all pulp samples from the lab, sift into chip trays, and organize in storage.
• Perform testing on core and pulp samples and enter data into spreadsheets.
• Collect core from drill rigs during drill programs.
• Willingness to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of KGHM.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
• Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
• Any previous geology or survey experience.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
• Minor computer skills are needed. Ability to use Microsoft Office Programs (Word and Excel), MinePlan, and AutoCAD (preferred).
• Ability to organize paperwork and large amounts of samples.
• Must be able to work well with others and be able to interact with several different departments on the mine site.
• Candidate must be able to work well as part of a team and alone with minimal supervision.
• Ability to proficiently and safely operate light vehicles and construction equipment (4-wheel-drive preferred, 1-ton flatbed truck, backhoe, and or forklift).

Responsibilities:
• Design of delineation drilling programs, track and report weekly/monthly intercepts and progress, assist with yearly budgets
• Supervise and report out spends to drill budgets and forecasts
• Compile and validate drilling data; including assay results, downhole survey, geology logging and QAQC and other data collected during drilling
• Support diamond and RC drilling activities through drill and drill station inspections, validating TD’s

• Geological mapping (either digital or on paper depending on location) and sampling of active faces and other exposures underground and/or on surface; which may require use of scaling bar and working from extreme platform
• Compile mapping and assay information in 3-D software and correlate it with existing models
• Supervise sample collection for accuracy and consistency, timely delivery to lab
• Resolve and monitor the routing of ore in the mine based on assays and mapping
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports as required; assist with weekly and monthly reconciliation for model performance and impacts to grade

Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Geology or related field required

• Ability to work within a team environment and possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required

• Familiarity with logging diamond core and RC chips preferred
