THE SEARCH

Gettysburg College seeks a strategic visionary to become the inaugural Executive Director of Professional Education and Innovation. Reporting to the President and working collaboratively across the breadth of the College and locally, regionally, and nationally with external stakeholders, the executive director will develop Gettysburg College as an established brand in the professional education market, strategically leveraging internal and external assets and scaling this new initiative to support net revenue objectives. In addition, the Executive Director will also have the distinct opportunity to identify, vet, and grow non-educationally based alternative revenue initiatives.

Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College has distinguished itself as a leader in residential liberal arts and sciences education. The College is consistently ranked among the top 55 liberal arts and sciences colleges in the country and offers an intimate and collaborative learning environment with renowned faculty, unique research opportunities, and state-of-the-art facilities. Gettysburg’s campus sits adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. Today, Gettysburg enrolls 2,400 undergraduate students from over 40 states and nearly 40 countries. With 224 full-time faculty, the College boasts a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio and offers more than 65 academic programs. In March of 2022, the Board of Trustees approved Gettysburg’s new strategic plan, “Living Our Promise,” with the goal to inspire students to lead lives of meaning, service, and consequence. The plan advances this essential work and marries the excellence of a rigorous liberal arts and sciences education with a student experience that intentionally integrates learning that occurs inside and outside of the classroom.

The Executive Director of Professional Education and Innovation will be responsible for directing the strategic planning, implementation, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of professional education programs and other alternative revenue opportunities. They are responsible for the supervision of staff, instructors, and external vendors, management and operations of the Professional Education and Innovation unit, as well as relationship development and engagement with stakeholder groups.

The South Mountain Partnership, an alliance of citizens, businesses, non-profits, academic institutions, and government agencies, is preparing a State of the Region Report Card. This regional scale planning document will identify metrics that demonstrate environmental health and provide context on how the region currently is doing and identify opportunities for improvement. Utilizing the Report findings, the VISTA member will develop presentations and curricula to help the public 1) understand the current conditions and 2) have the data and context necessary to protect and enhance public health. The VISTA will organize community conversations, where volunteers will utilize the curricula to present the report and facilitate discussions on needed course corrections to ensure a more sustainable future. The VISTA member will also work on building other partnerships between the college and the community, engaging the South Mountain Partnership’s network of over 40 partners, including potential projects with the Watershed Alliance of Adams County and the Land Conservancy of Adams County.

Member Duties : *Applicant will need to provide Covid-19 vaccine documentation* The goal of this VISTA project is to increase awareness of environmentally conscious behaviors both on campus and in the South Mountain landscape region. In Year 1, the VISTA member will work with the South Mountain Partnership to interpret the results of the forthcoming State of the Region Report and develop curricula to present the findings to the public. The VISTA member will train volunteers to deliver these presentations. In addition, the VISTA member will work with students and college officials to develop an outreach plan for increasing knowledge of sustainable living solutions on campus, including events during orientation and throughout the academic year. Finally, the VISTA member will build partnerships with community organizations to identify potential ways to connect college resources (student volunteers, facilities, faculty research) to community-identified needs related to conservation and the environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
• Associate’s Degree or 2 years related experience
• Must have a vehicle, valid driver’s license, and be able to drive in daytime or nighttime
• Ability to utilize DRH Sales applications on a smart phone, tablet, or laptop
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral form or via DRH Sales applications
• Proficiency with MS Office and email
