As GitHub expands into new communities and new product categories, we’re looking for a Staff Product Manager to help us shape how the world discovers, experiments, deploys, and maintains artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) models.
In this role, you’ll work with a global team of mission-driven “Hubbers” working on some of the world’s most complex engineering problems. You’ll... answer questions like, “How do we…”
• Adapt existing GitHub workflows to the needs of AI/ML practitioners?
• Collaborate with the community to establish standards & norms for ML Ops?
• Help AI/ML practitioners iterate and get experiment results faster?
• Make it easier to fork, and fine tune models?
• Enable the general public (i.e. consumers) to discover and play with new models?
Working at GitHub, you’ll be challenged and rewarded with global impact. With over 85 million developers contributing on GitHub, there’s simply no other destination where your work can have a larger impact on the developer community.
We value collaboration, empathy, quality, positive impact and shipping. The most successful candidates will exhibit work that reflects these values. We want every team member to do their best work, and we'll partner to do the same for you. We expect you to have a strong technical background, excellent communication skills and a commitment to make everyone on your team feel included.
Your Impact
In this role, you’ll have tremendous opportunity to learn, collaborate and impact the habits of AI/ML practitioners everywhere. As the product owner for AI/ML workflows on GitHub, you will:
• Own the product vision for AI/ML. As the person responsible for product strategy, you’ll build the vision for your product area and ensure it aligns with company strategy. You’ll define how data scientists, researchers, students, and hobbyists practice machine learning using GitHub. You’ll make tough prioritization decisions while helping the team think strategically about long-term opportunities while balancing short term objectives.
• Become an expert. You’ll become an authority on the practices, innovations, trends, and history of AI/ML. You’ll share your vision with others both inside and outside of the company so we can make GitHub a better home for AI/ML practitioners.
• Represent the customer. You’ll serve as the champion and voice of customers in every conversation. You will build direct relationships with customers and immerse yourself in their experience of the product. You’ll also strive to ensure everyone on our team understands our customers’ needs.
• Collaborate across teams. Your success will require coordination across multiple teams and disciplines at GitHub. You’ll play a critical role creating alignment between partner teams and ensure we all succeed together as a team.
• Make data-informed decisions. You’ll use both quantitative and qualitative data to identify customer pain points, and use this information to prioritize your product roadmap.
• Experiment. You’ll drive improvements through iterative design and experimentation. You’ll gather data to build a strong understanding of the customer, the friction they experience, and the solutions that lead to a better developer experience.
• Measure success. You’ll own the definition of “success” for your product area – making sure the criteria are measurable, attainable, visible to all stakeholders, and create the right incentives.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements
• Excellent written & oral communication skills
• Track record of using qualitative and quantitative data to prioritize and drive decision-making
• Demonstrated ability to ship software that drives business impact
• Working familiarity with modern ML development stack, open-source libraries, and hosted ML services (e.g. Jupyter Notebooks, Replicate, Hugging Face, Google CoLab, Tensorflow, PyTorch, NumPy, etc.)
Nice to have, but not required
• Proficiency in one or more major programming languages
• Experience working across multiple disciplines (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Finance, Legal, Support, Product, Engineering, Research, and Design)
• Familiarity with:
• GitHub and its users (or have used GitHub yourself)
• Developer tools
• Enterprise development practices
• Continuous integration, delivery and learning
• Cloud compute methodologies and technologies
Minimum salary of $118,100 to maximum $265,100.
At GitHub certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
Location: In this role, you can work remotely from anywhere in the United States or onsite in one of GitHub’s U.S. offices (San Francisco, Bellevue, Raleigh).

Do you want to make software development a delight for the entire world? Join us at GitHub! We are delivering the best end-to-end software development experiences across the globe...
We’re looking for world-class software engineers to join GitHub’s Compute Products organization. In this organization, we build solutions that enable engineers to easily package and deploy their software alongside their code. Compute Products is responsible for the entire stack of features and technologies that power GitHub Actions, GitHub Packages, GitHub Pages, and GitHub Codespaces. These services enable our millions of customers to follow industry best practices and deploy and maintain their products easily, increasing the impact of software solutions at a global scale.
Compute Products is growing fast and is hiring for platform roles across these services, so please reference the qualifications below to determine if any of these roles would be a good fit for you. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work as an engineer with a distributed, diverse and passionate team delivering features and improvements to the stack. You’ll work with our team of engineers and product managers to build and maintain critical parts of our platforms that enable developers to build and deploy high-quality services running at a global scale.
A day in the life of a Platform Engineer on the team:
Our teams are fully remote and distributed across the world, which means that we greatly value asynchronous collaboration and documentation. Your typical week would include the following:
• Collaborating with product managers and engineers to understand the problems we want to solve, exploring how we can solve them, and what our users have said about the problems and solutions so far.
• Managing and provisioning resources using Infrastructure as Code.
• Building, deploying and supporting tools that improve Github’s developer experience.
• Automating software deployments following a continuous delivery and deployment model.
• Discussing and collaboratively solving engineering and product problems with other engineers in GitHub Issues and PRs, Slack, or Zoom.
• Opening a Pull Request to implement the next most important feature or task, or fix the most critical bug and resolving suggestions in your code reviews.
• Identifying and prioritizing the highest-value work, contributing to both engineering improvements and developer joy.
• Responding to issues and review requests from other teams at GitHub and modeling/teaching best practices around this to peers.
• Working with your engineering manager in your one-on-one meetings to grow your team and career.
• Rotating responsibilities for on-call and improving the on-call process.
Qualifications:
We are looking for experienced software engineers with the following skills and experience:
• 2+ years of professional experience in software development
• 1+ years of experience designing, building, and running services in the cloud.
• 1+ years working with containers in production
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience building developer tooling, including working directly with developer “customers” to design and create optimal user experiences.
• Excellent analytical skills as well as communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong software development skills gained with different programming languages and patterns.
• Experience working with orchestration systems like Kubernetes.
• Basic knowledge of databases, networking, caching, queuing, load-balancing, storage, and distributed services layers.
• Familiarity with Git.
• Experience automating standard processes.
• Ability to learn and think critically about both system design and software engineering concepts and blend those perspectives pragmatically based on project needs.
• Experience building, operating and maintaining resilient, scalable distributed services.
• Knowledge of testing, profiling, and debugging practices.
• Passionate about healthy team culture and collaboration to meet shared objectives.
As a Platform team, we are passionate about enabling engineering teams to do their best work. Our work spans multiple areas, including software development, scripting, infrastructure, reliability, and scalability. We are looking for people interested in building the platform that Github engineers write services on top of.
We work as a distributed group within a distributed company. Most of our team members live in Europe and across the US and Canada, and while we have some offices, all our meetings are location-agnostic and happen online. We operate with a high degree of autonomy and trust. We value learning, communication and reflection. We're always looking for ways to improve as a team and individuals. Candor and a culture that values safety to speak up are highly important to us.
Please note that this application is for GitHub Engineering and you may have the opportunity to be considered for multiple teams.
Minimum salary of $90,700 to maximum $240,500.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock.

Why You Should Join:
At GitHub, we constantly strive to create an environment that allows our employees (Hubbers) to do the best work of their lives. We've designed one of the coolest workspaces in San Francisco (HQ), where many Hubbers work, snack, and create daily. The rest of our Hubbers work remotely around the globe. Check out an updated list of where we can hire here: https://github.com/about/careers/remote
We are also committed to keeping Hubbers healthy, motivated, focused and creative. We've designed our top-notch benefits program with these goals in mind. In a nutshell, we've built a place where we truly love working, we think you will too.
GitHub is made up of people from a wide variety of backgrounds and lifestyles. We embrace diversity and invite applications from people of all walks of life. Also, if you have a disability, please let us know if there's any way we can make the interview process better for you; we're happy to accommodate!
