Job Description

The Director of Annual Giving / Assistant Athletics Director reports to the Director of Development/Senior Associate Athletics Director and is responsible for all aspects of current-use fundraising & development operations for Athletics. Leading a team of one professional staff, the Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and measuring strategies that increase overall current use philanthropic revenue for Boston College Athletics.

A primary charge of the Director†s is the development of strategies that are distinct from and incremental to leadership annual giving tied to Athletics parking and seating incentives, with the goal of providing significant budget relief to the University†s investment in Athletics ($20M+) that is not offset by other revenue.

The Director will leverage solicitation strategies that include one-to-one fundraising and direct marketing (email, mail, phone, and social media), including leveraging the Director of Athletics, Director of Development/Senior Associate Athletics Director and select coaches as needed. They will develop stewardship and recognition strategies for annual donors to Athletics and will collaborate with colleagues in both Advancement and Athletics on their implementation. They will also support sports specific giving strategies to fund operational funding goals of our 31 varsity programs.

Additionally, the Director will oversee all aspects of the donor-based parking and ticketing functions and will serve as the primary liaison with the University†s leading constituents (including members of the Board of Trustees and Board of Regents) regarding their Athletics parking and ticketing. S/he will also serve as the primary liaison with the Athletics External team on parking, ticketing, and athletics marketing initiatives.

The Director will work collaboratively with leaders in the Advancement and Athletics organizations to ensure that all strategies are aligned with the departmental goals of both division and within the context of anticipated fundraising campaigns, for both Athletics and for the University more broadly. They will serve on the Athletics Advancement leadership team and Athletics Senior Staff to support the execution of the annual goals of BC Athletics and BC Athletics Advancement.

Hiring Range: $92,850-$116,150; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

Bachelor†s degree required with a master†s degree preferred. The position requires a minimum of five years of fundraising experience.

The Director must also have a working knowledge of NCAA and other compliance rules. Familiarity with and significant interest in Division One Athletics is preferred. A demonstrated knowledge and passion for college athletics and an understanding of fundraising and its role in a University setting is required, as well as an ability to articulate the mission of the Boston College Athletic Department. Customer focus, teamwork, respect, clear communication, task focus and attention to detail are critical. Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education and have an appreciation for Jesuit Catholic education and the goals and values of Boston College. Significant travel, weekend, and evening work is required.

Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

Skills used in this position include database entry, report and presentation production, merge mailings, interaction with donors, and event support including some evenings and weekends; all as described below.
• Produce high-quality documents, including correspondence, mail merges, reports, memos, meeting agendas, spreadsheets, and presentations.
• Enter and update contact and event information in donor database software (Raiser’s Edge); produce basic reports, run queries and exports.
• Serve as backup for Operations in gift processing using Raiser’s Edge and Omatic software.
• Proofread documents such as donor listings, solicitation and acknowledgement letters, brochures, pledge forms, invitations, e-newsletters, and event briefing memos.
• Assist in the implementation of internal meetings. This includes reserving space, creating agendas, gathering necessary meeting materials, and taking and distributing notes after meetings.
• Respond to inquiries and requests from donors, Board members, volunteers, and visitors, using excellent telephone and communications skills with sensitivity to discreet matters.
• Regularly interact with development, member and donor services, donors, Board volunteers, other administrative assistants, communications, visitor operations, catering, security, engineering and maintenance, custodial services, horticulture, and volunteer services. The assistant works closely with all staff and others to anticipate and execute tasks.
• Perform general clerical duties such as photocopying, processing mail, filing, answering the member/donor hotline, and responding to emails.
• Help to maintain relevant pages on the Garden’s website by obtaining and submitting updated information to communications staff.
• Assist with development donor events that require time beyond the hours of the customary workday. Responsibilities may include collecting RSVPs, mailing invitations, producing nametags, making signage, driving a golf cart, and registering guests.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have the following:
• High-school diploma and at least four years of administrative assistant or equivalent experience; college degree and professional administrative training preferred
• Expert proficiency with MS Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Proficiency in virtual meeting technology; especially Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and others as necessary
• Donor database software experience highly preferred, specifically Raisers Edge

Key Responsibilities:
