Good Return is the registered business name of World Education Australia Ltd, a development agency that works across the Asia Pacific region to deliver training and business support programs for the benefit of the financially and socially excluded. We are an affiliate of World Education Inc, a Boston-based charity that has worked around the globe for more than 50 years to improve quality of life through education.
Good Return holds full accreditation from the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT). We are a member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID). As a signatory we are committed and fully adhere to its Code of Conduct, and to working with transparency, accountability and integrity.
We are registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and comply with all its requirements. We hold Australian Financial Services Licence 504804 granted by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC).
Scope of position
The Internal Auditor monitors and assesses how risks are managed, and how well internal control processes are working. The position acts as a consultant, applying a systematic methodology in evaluating the effectiveness of risk management, and how Good Return can improve its overall control environment.
The role includes these broad functions:
• Evaluating the overall compliance regimen in terms of its design and effectiveness
• Evaluating how well risk management is handled, including information security
• Reporting and advising on risk management issues to senior management and the Board
• Assessing how the company would perform in the case of business interruption
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountabilities
1. Check that the major risks facing Good Return have been identified, and that appropriate risk management control procedures are documented and tracked
Review internal risk and control frameworks (including policies) to:
• test ongoing evaluation of operational and financial risks in the business model
• assess ownership and effectiveness of risk management and control procedures
• where considered inadequate, draft appropriate changes to relevant policy or procedures.
2. Spot check operational processes to test policy compliance and control effectiveness.
• record instances of ineffective compliant processes or controls
• test accuracy and timeliness of all MIS data
• review segregation of duties and approval levels to control against error or fraud
• check reconciliation of bank accounts with internal book-keeping balances.
3. Provide periodic reports to senior management and the Board as to the adequacy of risk management policies, and effectiveness of control procedures.
• provide periodic reports to senior management on internal audit findings that balance matters of concern as well as positive observations.
• make recommendations and provide assistance in improving systems and procedures reviewed; track implementation of these.
• prepare a regular Internal Audit Report for the Board Audit Committee.
Qualifications
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
• Minimum of a BA Accounting degree; CA or CPA preferred
• Professional experience conducting internal or external audits essential, including the review and testing of controls
• Solid understanding of standard accounting and operations processes and practice
• Ability to work independently, and remotely as necessary
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• A commitment to Good Return’s mission
A Criminal Record Check and Bankruptcy statement is required for the position (at cost of Good Return).
