Introduction

The University of Utah is seeking an experienced Senior Grant Writer to provide full grant/proposal writing support of a new campus-wide grant-development unit – the Large Infrastructure Funding Team ( LIFT ), designed to build and support response teams for center, program, and other large-scale, interdisciplinary grant opportunities. About the Role

This Senior Grant Writer will organize and manage all grant writing components/campaigns large-scale, interdisciplinary grant opportunities. A central responsibility of this position is to facilitate and manage the preparation of complex research proposals as it relates to proposal writing, key component development, alignment of PIs/key personnel/University voices, etc.

The Senior Grant Writer will collaborate with PIs and other grant opportunity leaders/staff to identify quality gaps in content/grant writing, lead writing campaigns, develop writing timelines, etc. to ensure proposals/grant content submitted on behalf of LIFT are highly competitive, innovative, and efficient. It is essential that the Senior Grant Writer can interpret requests-for-proposals/applications from external sponsors. Strong applicants will have significant experience in interpreting grant requirements and guidelines, and experience reading and translating technical science to be more accessible for dissemination.

Responsibilities

• Assist in generation of external funding through high-quality concept-building, content writing, copy-editing, storytelling, etc. for external grant writing campaigns.
• Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders and team members to develop strategies and ideas that support the execution of grant writing concepts and projects.
• Continuously present created content to key internal and external stakeholders to gain input and feedback through the content development or grant writing campaign lifecycle.
• Collaborate with University leadership; Industry partners; staff in State, Foundation, and Federal grant spaces to assist with grant preparation, writing, and submission.
• Engage with program officers at grant sponsor organizations to ask developmental/content-creating questions, as needed. Act as liaison with program officers and sponsor staff, as needed.
• Organize grant writing campaign events (workshops, brainstorming sessions, dedicated writing sessions, etc.)
• Assist with identifying relevant funding opportunities to pursue and support by collaborating with Faculty, Staff, Principal Investigators, Leadership, and other key personnel for strategic center/programmatic grant research. Collect and coordinate resources and tools to promote collaboration. Identify complementary research interests among faculty and assemble competitive teams to respond to funding opportunities.
• As requested by the VPR Office, participate in broader institutional initiatives, proposal and award applications, staff mentoring, and other administrative assignments
